Swansea City v Bristol City Competition- Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 29 September 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following their battling away win at Coventry, next up for Luke Williams’ improving Swansea squad is a home match against Bristol City. Last Saturday, the Swans kept up their impressive recent form as they completed a bad week for Coventry City with a 2-1 win. The Sky Blues’ EFL Cup disappointment was compounded by the Swans who were rewarded for a quick start that saw them take the lead through Liam Cullen’s opportunistic finish. Oli Cooper’s run and firm finish put the Swans 2-0 ahead, but Jack Rudoni’s deflected effort immediately got Coventry back into contention. Both sides missed chances in a second half delayed by a torrential downpour that saw the referee take the players off the pitch, but the Swans held firm for a second successive ’gritty’ victory. Indeed, during this week’s media briefings, Luke Williams stated that whilst he wants the Swans to produce a style of play that excites supporters, he also made clear that he and his staff view defensive resilience as being every bit as important a part of the team’s identity. The victories over Norwich and Coventry saw the Swans dictate play with the ball in spells and take the game to their opponents. But those wins also saw Williams' side prepared to dig in and do the ugly elements of the game, making countless blocks, tackles and interceptions on the way to claiming all three points on both occasions. Whilst the Swans were beating Coventry, Bristol City were coming from behind to beat Oxford at Ashton Gate to pick up their first win in four Championship matches. The U's took the lead through Ruben Rodrigues in the first half and went into the break with the one-goal advantage. Sinclair Armstrong levelled the scores 12 minutes into the second half and Nahki Wells scored from the penalty spot to wrap up the three points for the Robins and their Manager Liam Manning, who had managed Oxford previously. The Swans have played the Robins on 79 previous occasions, winning 24, losing 32 and drawing 23. In the corresponding fixture last September, the Robins recorded a 1-2 away win on their way to completing the double over the Swans last season: Arguably, the most memorable fixture between the 2 sides came during their first meeting at the Liberty in 2005: Turning to tomorrow, I’m hope that the Swans will record a third successive Championship win: I’m going 2-1 to the Swans
Andrew Kitchen will be the man in charge when the Swans host Bristol City. The clash with the Robins will be the second time Kitchen has overseen a Swansea City match, having taken charge of last season’s draw at Queens Park Rangers. That game at Loftus Road was actually Kitchen’s first in the Championship, as he had previously operated in League One and League Two following his promotion to the National List of Referees in the summer of 2021. Last season, he took charge of 33 matches handing out 103 yellow cards and three reds. Tomorrow, he will be assisted by Andrew Fox and Hugh Gilroy. Anthony Backhouse will be the fourth official.
2-1 , a game we should win based on ours & B Bristol's recent performances. Just hope we have a decent crowd which imo have been disappointing but with anew skip in our step and return to some sort of decent attacking football the stayaways should no long have that as an excuse.(paying for matches aside)
No idea. Whilst we have won the last 2 I feel we have rode our luck a bit in each game. That won’t happen every week but I’m hoping we can win without bricking it in the last 15 mins or so.
It's a tightrope walk for me... could go either way. It'll be a good indication of whether we're progressing (as it seems we are) or we just had the rub for a few games. Hopefully a home win and a decent performance.
