I never had that mate. Always corned beef when the money had run out. I met my wife when I was 19, she was from Southampton. She made something called corned beef hash, but it was like cottage pie with its layer of mash on it.

I reckon in the older days, when mams had to eek out the housekeeping, traditional dishes were adapted to anything we had left in the pantry.

I have a brilliant memory of my childhood. In the spring farmers or farm labourers would walk through out little village giving out rabbits they had shot that week. I thought rabbit pie, which is what mam made, was the best thing ever. Nowt but rabbit and spring greens from the allotment and a gravy. Bit of mash and a slice of bread. Happy times.

Corned beef hash down here too mate.
Bubble and squeak was an old fry up dish of leftovers too.

Can't believe the waste and shìte food these days.

When I first met my mrs she would throw a fried egg in the bin if the yolk broke in the pan.
    Wtf <doh> :eek::rolleyes:

I pointed out that the fooking yoke gets broke when you bite into it FFS <laugh>

I hate seeing food go to waste.
Just remembered, pobs was a dish when I was a kid. Stale bread. (Modern bread is full of ****e additives)
Mixed with milk and heated like porridge with sugar on <laugh>

I used to do 99% of the cooking before separated from the Mrs. On my own these days so it's gone up a bit!

I really enjoy it though, but I can't be arsed with fancy recipes that have a billion ingredients and you need to go to several shops for it. Food doesn't need to be complicated to taste great!

Trying to get the kids into it too and one of them really enjoys it.

It’s stew mate but with a lambs neck. I go to my butcher a few days before I want to make it because obviously it’s not something they stock and he has it there for me when I go back to pick it up. Leave it on the bone when you cook it.

    Lambs neck
    Potatoes
    Carrots
    Onions
(Anything else you want to throw in)
Beetroot or red cabbage (depending on your fancy) gets chucked on top of the final dish.

You can see by the dishes above you don’t need fancy ingredients for cracking food.
