Would be nice if the original 1,904 batch ones had an individual number/hallmark, yeah, but I’m not too bothered if it doesn’t. I mainly got the shirt and jacket because it looks nice lmao. Same reason I got the Matchwinner one.
Hope you get him one. I ordered them on behalf of my kids too. Put it away for them for posterity etc. I surrendered them to this misery - so I try and pay it back when I can.
My son and I were both in online queues and he got in before me and ordered ours. I still managed to get into the shop and could have bought one but I'm not one of 'those' people so I logged out and let someone else in the queue get it
Actually, the last shirts I bought for myself was Pelada not Matchwinner: the 1992/1993 set (found them the other day - the tiger print one and the cyan away) Both in utterly **** condition.
I was happy dropping 55 quid on a limited edition shirt as an anniversary memento. It's probably more than I'd like to pay, but that's often the case for a collectors item, so I'm disappointed that they've decided to make a ton more tbh.
The club is potentially missing out on hundreds of thousands, potentially even millions, by making these shirts in such limited quantities.
Latest email from the club Due to levels of demand beyond our wildest expectations, we can confirm there will be a re-order of our 120th anniversary commemorative kit. Based on the feedback from our fans, we accept that limiting numbers to 1904 was not the correct approach and we will now give everyone who wants a shirt the chance to get their hands on one. More details will follow in due course, with the process likely to involve a pre-sale period that will guarantee availability across the board. Thank you for your support and patience!
I can give a few reasons to be honest. One is that commercially it makes zero sense especially this instance. Say they had stuck with their guns and only released 1904 of them. At £55 that's £105k of revenue. Not chump change but there's clearly a demand in an anniversary year to have a memento that is special to the occasion. Maybe take pre-orders and gauge interest if you are worried of having excess stock but I doubt that was a concern. They just wanted to create a bit of FOMO and sell it. Another is that as we've already seen are the scalpers. Already some chancing their arm on ebay with this kit. It's rancid on so many levels. I get that this is a subjective opinion but it's just the aspect of supporting the team. We all want to and do it in our own ways but limiting it to a select group just creates an us v them aspect. I'm lucky and got one but I wouldn't want someone missing out just because they couldn't arrange to get one in a limited run. I understand some people like to collect and I get the novelty around that. If you're that inclined then maybe the club can do a "minted" version with assigned numbers on it so if you have #1 out of 1904 then it holds some value
Aye I get that but limiting an actual kit to under 2k when anyone could tell you that demand was going to be far greater was a bit silly
I’m furious, I think it’s one of the nicest City kits ever and I got kicked out several times. It’s a joke and I will be complaining
He’s anymore been said on the retro match winner shirts, they said they’d release the old green/white chequered shirt again….not seen anything since
Same! All his mates jumped on the Man City bandwagon. I’m glad he’s stood firm, so we can both share the misery
All fair reasons, appreciate the time you took to answer that. I don’t have strong feelings either way, I like the idea of having limited editions but think your points there are all entirely valid.
