I'm sure they tried but tbf they only had around 25% possession, one shot all game and City started a 16 year old who hadn't even been training with the first team ... ... they've lost 3 of the last 4 so won't be brimming with confidence, they have good players though so won't be easy.
Our approach of hitting teams on the break makes a win possible , though I thought the same against Plymouth
Sorry to be on a downer but we have allowed teams to turn a corner a few times in the past and good players usually don,t play bad for ever. Hopefully you are right and we keep our momentum going .. I would take a draw at Watford but hoping for more
They scored a goal out of nothing and had City wobbling for the last 5. City missed a number of chances in the other 40 mins of the half.
Both sides made 9 changes to their previous line-ups. I watched that game and Watford had 3 good chances - the goal from Baah that was ruled out for a push, the header from Bayo that went just wide and Ince's goal. City totally dominated apart from the last 5 minutes but they should have been at least 4 up at that stage (24 shots, 8 on target). Both of City's goals came from Watford failing to deal with the high press - which is a good sign for us. The Watford keeper, Bond had a good game making 5 saves to keep them in it.
It should be said that getting the runaround from City (even a league cup City) is no great shame. They are miles ahead of any side in the country on a technical level. But I wouldn't be saying that the last 5 mins from Watford is something that should worry SAFC. The Georgian lad looked handy, though, for sure.
I do wonder if they may start him. Kinda thought that it might be the Derby game given that's at home (and our first Tuesday game) but I'd imagine we'll see him get a start soon.
Watford are really poor defensively. Their defence and midfield have little to no defensive awareness, the midfield in particular. So I think this is a game where Rigg can find pockets between the lines and cause damage that way. RLB mentioning wanting more control in the games, to me that is suggesting he wants more possession which is understandable. However, I am not sure this is the game for it. Watford look better when they sit in and hit on the break even though they have been trying to play more possession based football, personally I'd want us to allow them the ball and try to force errors high up the pitch. Tuesday night is the game for possession. 0-2 win. Roberts and Cirkin to score.
I was thinking a draw in this one, it wouldn't be the worst result despite our great start, but bollocks to that. 5-1 to the lads. O'Nien 19, 44, 71, 77, 83. O'Nien og 26.
Honestly think Luke is the type he would be telling all the lads pissing himself laughing. Probably tells all the new lads each season aswell
I'm going for a tight, cagey type of match....think they'll be a little nervous of us to start with....2-1 to the Lads....Cirkin from a set-piece and Paddy from a cut inside and a blistering, head down-arse up,left foot finish.....he's definately due one! Oh,and Trai to get booked!
Wouldn't at all be surprised to see Wilson start against Watford. Although the midweek game seems an obvious one to rotate players in, he can mitigate the amount of changes by doing a couple against Watford and rotating them back in for the midweek game.
