At the risk of being accused of blasphemy, Nigel Adkins was not the Messiah. A decent manager and very popular witht the fans. However he had players who turned out to be pretty handy in the PL.
I'm not sure we would look that different, can you imagine Rickie passing back to our keeper every time he got the ball?
IIRC Cortes had basically told Nigel that when we go up , you will probably not be here to long . Might be wrong though !
Just to add that when Poch was introduced as the Saints manager it was suggested to him it must be a challenge now for him to get to know his squad. Poch replied that was not the case because Cortese had met with hin (Poch) two months before the sacking, in Spain, to offer him the job, so he already had a good understanding of the squad. Cortese had seen enough in September and October to know he needed an upgrade. Nothing like a little forward planning.
Yeah probably the biggest problem for us is our championship attack. Which means we need to coach out the defensive lapses. Can’t be **** at both ends
To be honest, I think he was only ever brought in to get us out of league one and Cortese was planning to appoint someone else during the championship season. But obviously we started like a train and were top two all season.
Think it’s fair to say based on his career after us and seeing how a lot of the side back then did in their careers that his main strength was building a great atmosphere at a talented side. Didn’t really need to mess around too much tactically as the team we had was very strong for the level. Poch got more of a tune out of the same squad as he was a better tactician than Adkins
On a Saints site on FB , there is mention that IF RM gets the sack , they are thinking of some one called Eustace . Blackburn manager I think Has anyone else heard this ?
I'm not sure why BBC have started quoting Football Insider in recent times. They never used to. It's giving Football Insider far more attention than it ever deserves.
This morning my biking mate offered me the chance to go to the local bowling club to watch tomorrow’s match on Sky. My immediate reaction was No thanks, I don’t enjoy watching Saints, as they are ineffective and boring. Watching Chelsea v Brighton on MOTD showed football from a different planet. It was direct and exciting. Even when Saints aren’t hopeless, they just drain the enthusiasm out of so many fans. Even City aren’t that exciting, playing possession football. Just boringly effective as apposed to boringly ineffective.Win or lose, I just want to be entertained.
