If we’re selling him at any point within the next year while he is 18/19, he has to fetch upwards of £80mill for me tbh. Agree, that if he continues this form he’ll be fast tracked to England senior squad. He’s defo in the u21s with THB next time around, that’s for sure In honesty, after Chelsea situation, I don’t think he’s going to want to leave at this point in his career though - unless we get relegated, but even still, one season in the Champ scoring 20+ goals would do him the world of good, just look at Kane, Vardy and the rest of them.
The Chelsea situation is irrelevant if he moves for first team football, unless it was a homesickness thing, if that’s the case then he may stay. The positive is the sorts of teams where he is going to be playing regularly in their first team arent the sort of teams who will pay us the £50m+ for an 18 year old we would likely be asking.
This is from a September 2022 report in the Athletic. Feels like the sort of experience that might make him reluctant to push for another move too soon but as none of us know him personally it's hard to say for sure.
I believe it was homesickness caused by Chelsea's set up. I think he found the whole place rather cold and unwelcoming due to the size and amount of players. But he was only 16 at the time. At the end of this season he'll be 19 and, assuming he doesn't pick up a bad injury, will have 30+ PL games under his belt. I don't think homesickness will be an issue again as he will be moving into another first team squad, rather than an academy.
Dibling is excelling with us because he's getting played. He's being able to express himself in a team that wants to dominate possession and many of the team have said it's enjoyable playing this style of football (though I'm sure that might wane if we keep struggling)! He's still only 18 and just wants to play. We're giving him that. The crowd love him and sing his name. He's currently untouchable as far as the crowd and criticism is concerned. We shouldn't underestimate just how much that can mean to a young player finding their way. A lot more English young players are realising this and creating their legacies away from the bright lights of the big 6 and thus getting a better grounding in football (Bellingham, Gomes, Madueke, Livramento, Gittens). I can't see him going anywhere until next summer at least. If he does, I think he'll be selective about going to a stable environment where he can grow further and within a football style that suits him. He won't want to go to a toxic club.
Bit of time to reflect on this. The critical part is the forward line, I think there is enough in the rest of our side to stay up. We now have a PL quality goalkeeper and midfield. Defence is so so, but I think Bednarek and THB can do enough played correctly. But I feel a quality striker had us at 2-3 goals in the Ipswich game with the chances that came up, we drew because of that more than any deficiency anywhere else. As for RM I don't buy wanting to kick him out, I can understand his logic for the Newcastle and Forest games, he should have made changes for Brentford but admitted his mistake. I think he got the set up right for Man U and Ipswich, the results were down to certain decisions/performances from some players (mental capitulation v United and lack of finishing and one late positional error v Ipswich).
The last refuge of a punditry scoundrel... uncalled for transfer gossip. Unusually, transfermarkt haven't even valued the guy yet!
Good post, but I feel it's early days for our forwards, remember J-Rod in his first season he was dubbed "one goal" for a few months in 2012 and Pelle and even Mane had their doubters initially. I'm hopeful that our midfield has the quality to keep feeding the striking options and Cam latched with his pace on to a couple of through balls and probably should've scored, he will hopefully start burying a few like in the Carabao Cup. Ross is very different but looked like his hold up play is decent and hasn't really had a chance to finish a goal opportunity yet.
I'm just going to live in the present with Saints and watch things evolve and enjoy the special talent that Tyler is for however long he is a Saint.
I want both Dibling and Fernandes here for as long as possible, but I already feel we will get stupid money for both should it come to it, big win for the club there.
I doubt either would if they continue on current trajectory tbh, but we would be PAID if they didn't. Not that its what we really want.
It's time for match thread posters to come up with something akin to Loadsa's 25 winning streak and my own humble promotion motivating effort.
Maybe Loading was our Bazunu and you were our McCarthy. He was always number 1, but you got us over the line...
