I've no idea why we've not got Tall Paul on the bench. Surely, surely surely he'd be useful for the last 15 minutes. Utter madness that we don't use him as an option
On a positive note, I do love having a keeper who can make saves. Sounds like a pretty basic thing, but after two years of not having it, it's great to have Ramsdale.
Can you imagine how many goals we would have shipped if Baz was keeping? Sends a shiver down my spine.
Bloody frustrating but also hard to criticise too many individuals. Martin got the starting 11 bang on but the subs really let us down I felt. We looked less organised, less structured and less threatening unfortunately. You want them to bring the game to life but they seemed to do the opposite. I do wonder if Ross Stewart had his Achilles surgically removed during that injury layoff. He certainly wont be rupturing it again at those speeds. What we saw of Onuachu was far more impressive that what I've seen of him. I thought we were pretty poor off the ball in the first half especially, Ipswich really should have punished us for the possession they had and we didn't really seem to have a way of playing through the thirds, the press really shut us down and kept us out of their half. Ipswich were pretty poor I think and the jammy goal probably wasn't deserved but thats football. Aribo just needs to stand up or sit down and that doesn't happen. Not one Saints player on the edge of the box for that goal either to challenge the 3 bloody ipswich danger men just waiting for the cleared ball. I can't be the only one that see's us up 1-0 and just knows that we will drop the points. Its the real 'southampton way' at this point. Yeah. frustrating.
We have a real problem defending corners. Four out of five goals conceded at St. Mary's from falling asleep and failing to clear the ball or press the opposition players on the edge of the box.
Absolutely love what I've seen of him so far. Our chemistry will be what keeps us up if anything will do. Early days at the moment but Lallana and Dibling are obviously aiming to be the standout pairing for the start of the season. Fernandes and Archer (especially) need a bit of time to gel with the players around them but the signs today were positive. Sugawara is the signing of the summer for me. I love a good RB and he looks class. The backline today really didn't do much wrong and Ramsdale is good enough to keep us in this league if we can find solutions at the other end. Holpefully he will cut out the crazy driven passes to their midfielders. I don't know if its good or bad but Lallana was playing playstation on the pitch today directing every pass of the ball. He's obviously back and intent on being a big part of the team. shame it took him this long but going to be an important player if he can stay fit.
