Omari almost levels it. Open, even 1st half, a few basic errors from both sides. I am sure our subs will come on and add some bite.
Frustrating first half. Definitely had the higher quantity of chances, but not the quality. Southampton arguably could have been 2-0 up. We were explosive at the start, mellowed halfway through, then upped the tempo towards the end. Difficult to sustain that press for prolonged periods, but we really need to be finishing off these chances. Morsy and Cajuste a bit too slow for me in the middle.
I think we've shown some good things and some sloppy things. Burns has looked dangerous but we've lacked a bit of quality in both boxes. Need to be more clinical in the opposition box and need our defenders to drop off a bit. Whilst O'Shea and Greaves are certainly faster and stronger than Woolfenden and Burgess think some times they get too tight and ball watch. We're also not as effective with the ball at the back. Delap has been pretty quiet so far and apart from the last couple of minutes Hutchinson like he has all season given the ball away too many times. I'd like to see our old forward line on for the 2nd half with Jack Clarke.
We have lacked that fluency, and swift passing game where last season the players were more familiar with each other and attacked in pairs. Szmodics not at his best today, and nor is our capt. But, we have looked very threatening just gotta take those chances in the prem. Lets regroup, get an early goal, and get fresh legs at 60.
Personally I think Greaves and O'Shea are a big upgrade on Burgess and Wolfy but I wouldn't expect the Luke Wolfenden appreciation society to agree with that!! I think Morsy is not good enough for this level, sadly but has to be given a chance. I was never a fan of Szmodics but hope he can prove me wrong, he had had a mixed bag this season, I just think you have to play Clarke there!!
Have to say, I've had enough of Omari in number 10 role, not good enough, he needs to be where most effective...wide right!!
Poor result but better than a fecking defeat, we looked poor 2nd half, need to improve things big time imo. I would deffo play Omari right, Szmodics in 10 role and Clarke on left!!
One thing I will say, we still have that never say die attitude which is worth at least 10 more points this season!!
