Into September, and on Wednesday night our five street lights came on at 9.00 pm and went out again at 10.00 pm. We became used to them coming on when it became dark, then in an effort to save electricity last year, they didn't come on at all. So now all the power stations are up and running again, I assume we had returned to the earlier regime. Thursday, Friday and Saturday though they didn't come on at all, then with a degree of surprise at 9.00 pm this evening they came back on again for an hour. Who knows what is going on? Sooner or later, the council will tell us, but with no one to wander the village after dark, it is of no matter.
Just had a very pleasant afternoon at Rankin's Cafe at North Queensferry. Nice views of the Forth Railway Bridge. Decent cuppa, too. Photo when I've shrunk the file size to <2mb
Toby, why am I finding that this forum is now stopping me from posting videos from twitter? Is it Not606, or twitter?
He explained that to me a while ago - copy the video url then click on the media icon (the one highlighted below) and paste it into the box at the top, change the 'x' in the url to 'twitter' then click on 'embed'
Mrs Fez is a retired IT security manager. I have asked. She knows her onions... when she has successfully negotiated this I might be in business. Until then...
Yep or just post the link and edit it the x to twitter. I won't go into the nerdy details, the name change basically ruined embedded links for it.
I had some faith in insurance companies recovered recently For the last twenty years so I have been with Churchill and they cover both cars and the house as that gives discounts Last month I received a letter regarding the home insurance stating they had made an error in their calculations and refunded the equivalent of a moths premium despite reducing the cost of cover the year before Then a coupler of days ago I received another letter this time regarding my car insurance stating that they had made a miscalculation and I was due a refund despite my insurance not going up this year when I was expecting it to increase by about 20%, the refund was the equivalent of 11 months premiums and they stated if I was not happy I could query it Obviously;y I did not query it just in case So one the one hand how did they miscalculate the premiums but one the other hand they apologised and refunded me
One of the stores we visit when in Limoges or Chatauroux is Grand Frais. It sells lots of very good and unusual fruit and veg, along with cheeses and wines, fish and jars of this and that that is not available elsewhere. It seems that they are now going in for the even more unusual items judging by this headline. Over 40kg of cocaine found in banana deliveries to French supermarkets. Staff at Grand Frais branches in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France were astonished to find between 40kg (88lb) and 50kg of drugs hidden under pallets of bananas and were anxious to reassure customers that the cocaine had not come into contact with the fruit.
Autumn must be approaching, as we have received letters today inviting us to get our free vaccinations against flu and covid. My order for tea bags with Amazon fr. actually come from Stanmore. Ordered last Wednesday, despatched Thursday, informed today they have not left England yet as they are held in customs. On a day when a report comes out showing that UK exports are deteriorating fast from the delays and paperwork required now, it is time to get and sort this mess out.
Dear French hornet. We have returned to our beloved little cottage-after 4 long years, to find our few street lights completely extinguished. In the other hand, street names have appeared and most houses have a number- do we have to find out what ours is ? More pertinent, why are so many village entry entry and exit signs upside down ?
