R.I.P. Darth Vader of course , but many other things . I thought he was very good in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER .
New hot weather record set in Spain and the Northern Hemisphere. I got in my car about 1 hour ago and the temperature gauge showed 41C. Shade temperature for today is supposed to peak at around 30C where I am, so I was a little surprised by 41. No such thing as global warming. Average temperatures in Spain this August 2024 were the highest ever recorded, since accurate measurements were started in 1961. They were a full 2c higher than the average for the month from that year of starting comprehensive records. Recorded temperatures in the northern hemisphere in total, showed that it was the hottest ever recorded. The highest shade temperatures registered at official weather stations across Spain were Bilbao airport with 42,9 °C on August 11th; Málaga airport with 42,2 °C on August 2nd, and Granada airport and airbase both with 41,8 °C on August 1st. More on Fresh Radio Spain, Wednesday 8-10am.
But, but, but, there is no global warming. It's all made up by 'them'. Trying to exploit us all. I mean there can't be global warming as we have had a wet windy summer here and in Florida and nearby they have more and more windy weather in Autumn. See no global warming, maybe an ice age...

The headline, "Ig Nobel prize goes to team who found mammals can breathe through anuses" I'll forego the obvious comments and enjoy the science. https://www.theguardian.com/science...-who-found-mammals-can-breathe-through-anuses "After a series of tests on mice, rats and pigs, Japanese scientists found the animals absorb oxygen delivered through the rectum, work that underpins a clinical trial to see whether the procedure can treat respiratory failure. The team is among 10 recognised in this year’s Ig Nobel awards (see below for more), the irreverent accolades given for achievements that “first make people laugh, and then make them think”. They are not to be confused with the more lucrative and career-changing Nobel prizes to be handed out in Scandinavia next month. The latest crop of Ig Nobel winners received their awards at a ceremony at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Thursday. The event featured real Nobel laureates to distribute the prizes, “24/7” lectures in which experts first explained their subject in 24 seconds, then in seven words, and copious paper-plane throwing."
I just read that in 1975 Charlie Chaplin secretly entered a Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest in France and came third.
Been to some village garden shows where there is only one entry in , say, the best cabbage section and it has been awarded second prize.
