He put forward a football governance bill in June. Maybe that'll end up with him doing yet another u-turn. Who knows.
£300 million on a white elephant, that was/is not primarily a football stadium was never going to happen.
Villa legend Gary Shaw has died,,,,aged 63 RIP Part of a very good Villa side in the early 80's......
I could be getting the wrong end of the stick here, but I thought @johnsonsbaby was referring to the UEFA threat being posturing, whereas you seem to be talking about the football regulator thing?
not with the planned remit but they and FIFA are quite adamant about trying to keep the football authorities separate from the Govt though in some countries that is clearly very difficult / impossible and the warning is over what will happen if the regulator gets ever more control
I've not taken much notice of this, so what is the regulator supposed to be doing? Is it some attempt at ensuring good governance - a form of financial framework to prevent clubs from going to the wall, and perhaps prospective ownership checks? Then wouldn't it just be some form of higher authority doing what the football authorities are meant to do anyway -or is there more to it than that?
yes though more just "good governance" than purely finance i think but it is a Govt appointed position which worries UEFA .
They're concerned that someone might actually do their job properly. Though it's the government we're talking about, so probably no need to worry too much...
From the little I've read the regulator will be involved in those things you mentioned plus giving fans and players more say, whatever that means but some suggestions are that it could mean ensuring that there is no possibility of a breakaway league, like the super league, with fans and players having a voice to stop owners creating such a thing.
The regulator was a tory idea designed to get tory votes. I'd be shocked if labour don't quietly drop it

I bet it'll vanish. The tories were trying to make a play out of this at one stage but what in earth would compel a pack of gougers and frauds to help grassroots football.
