Speculation surrounding Steve Bruce has been around for several weeks now, so his departure came as no surprise last night but it still leaves a huge empty feeling inside tbh. As voiciferous as I have been about wanting him to be removed, and I dont stray from that opinion in any shape or form, now he has actually gone, like politicians that call then praise their opponents, I do feel for the man vacating the job. I didnt want him as our manager but wouldnt deny him success at another club (so long as he doesnt effect SAFC) in the near future. That said, we turn now to where we go. Like an expectant father pacing the maternity ward waiting for news on his first born, I find myslef unable to function properly this morning for looking at websites on the BBC & Sky, or speaking to SAFC fans and friends via the phone and txts. Who will it be? O Neill nailed on but wait a minute Hughes goes ahead in the bookies stakes. Then out of left field, Koeman and Queiroz throw their hats into the collective ring and jounalists and fans alike mention the likes of Benitez and Hiddink at will. The specualtion to be honest, is all consuming at the moment. And its that 'not knowing' and the 'waiting to see what happens' that are killing me. We have to make a quick appointment now as the season is slipping away. We cant allow speculation to over run the clubs targets and a new man has to be in before we play Wolves on Sunday imo. There is a helluva lot still to play for this season with 25 games and 75 points up for grabs but its going to take 10 games for a new man to validate the squad and team. That leave about 15 games to strive for a top 10 finish and it is still possible. However, to do this we need the right man, right now and at the right terms. I have thrown my full weight (quite considerable some cheekly gits might say) behind the man I have wanted at the club for over a decade. Martin O Neill. I am an unashamed fan of him both as a player and as a manager and think he would be perfect for us. However, Mark Hughes is no poor second choice and would be as equally able to turn us round imo. Both men believe in discipline and hard work and both would put a rocket up the arses of our under performing players. None of them will have an 'easy time' but I think ALL of them would relish the chance to play under either of them. I wish that the club would just get on with it now and make an appointment and we can get back to football matters on the pitch as soon as possible.
All i can say Cest is "look at that list of names you mentioned...pretty impressive, and just shows that we are a canny proposition for some decent managers". The groundwork is done, now just need the master builder to complete the job.
There can be no doubt that we are a much bigger fish today than we were even 6 years ago. Both Roy Keane and Steve Bruce can take some credit for this of course but you are correct, the foundations have been build for some time but no structure has yet been erected of note. We need a better architect, designer and builder in now to complete the job. MoN come on down?
I feel we already have our man. Meetings already taken place. Bruce sacked at a very odd time, why not Saturday or Monday at the latest. 6PM on a Wednesday just doesn't make sense unless of course....Someone said yes yesterday.
I think he would have been sacked on Sunday...but the Gary Speed news did make sacking a manager a little tasteless..That my take on it. It would also explain the MON interview yesterday
Not a peep from either man though.... You know it's a decent job, when two good managers are gonna have to fight it out.
I just cant wait for the new fella to get started. I hope it gives all the players a lift & he brings in a few players in Jan. Like a LB & LW & 2 forwards
We dont need a bloke with a shiny new hard hat and a gold shovel laying the first stone ...........we need an emmergency engineer to shore up the foundations and a bloody big site manager..so scare the living daylights out of the lazy overpaid brickies and idiotic plasterers and workshy labourers ....why are the plasterers always as thick as ****!..is it in the mix. MON or MH....whoever they need to get their finger out, since Quinny first took over we have had the opportunity to grow this club into a frequent top six club and most of all to attract the young fan back to the club following the disasterous post Reidy years..I feel the train is beginning to leave the station and a lot of money and time has been wasted we need to catch this train so get a move on short appoint Martin Oneil give him some dough and lets get this club back to where it belongs(i know i have changed my mind about MON..simply because you have to get a hero out of your system (cest and many others)so give him a go and i will suppport him(but prefer hughes). I was around in the late seventies when cloughy myth hung around safc like a cloud.....he should have got the job then and now we would have been mentioned with the likes of manu liverpool and Arsenal as we were a far bigger entity than forrest and once the Goliath train of SAFC had got moving it would of taken a lot to stop her...... So sometimes you do get a perfect fit a perfect synergy lets hope its MON,SAFC and most inportantly SHORT....come on SHORT ,the SAFC fans the TEAM the whole of MACKEM land lets get this blooded and mothballed behamoth out of its slumber and catch the bloody train ,around these parts they dont come that often!
2 horse race, forget the rest even though that is a pretty impressive list, realistically there are 2 in the running and at the minute the papers are suggesting it's up to MON. If he wants it then fine, if not it looks like Hughes is getting it. TBH, both are more than capable of rescueing our season and with some carefull spending a top half finish isn't beyond us.
