Didn't Stoke or someone do it a couple of years ago? Had a highly rated young keeper from a PL side (Bursik or something?) and there was supposedly something dodgy about the injuries they had that made it possible?
I actually don’t mind Baz. He’s in a tricky situation with the club where he is told stuff but asked not to release names. What would you do in that position?? My biggest annoyance is that for a City journalist he should be all over everything City - for eg. I don’t think he has any idea that Charlie Hughes played 20 times for Wigan in the Championship. I also think he’s better to listen to than read. But that could be the indecipherable layout of the HDM online or perhaps that a couple of sentences from Walter is turned into a 3 article piece!
that’s a very long deal for someone who is 4th choice keeper, not sure I understand the logic on this decision
He's only 21, most keepers don't peak until their late 20s/early 30s, so we've got him to develop for the foreseeable future. Obviously Rushworth won't be here at the end of the season, so it's giving him a pathway to get into the first team set up.
Nobody does mate ****ing bizarre I wish we concentrated on getting strikers in and holding on to them. I’ve said this for years Where’s the under 21 centre forward coming through? Surely it would be worth having him on the bench for some games to experience it and using him off the bench for ten or twenty minutes now and again?
Don’t forget Slater can play up front also. We are not as light up top as many people seem to think. I actually think given the influx of so many central midfielders that the manager has always intended on using Slater there where he can be more of a threat.
Is he actually a striker? I know he played there v Wednesday but he seems to usually play on the wing and looked a bit lost up front in that game. I suppose you could say Burstow is the more serious "U21 striker" but then that begs the question of who the first team ones are.
Sandat was supposed to be highly-rated but from what I’ve seen of him briefly in the under-21s last season and this summer in pre-season, he was crap. A Tom Eaves regen. When you think about it, Lewis-Potter and Greaves are anomalies as far as pure academy-produced talent. There’s the likes of Fleming and Andy Smith who will have a decent career in League One or Two but most are destined for non-league regional divisions.
It’s the area I think. Also our loan system is terrible. We’ve got a few in the u18s now but they’re all from afar
Our under-21s sign a few lads from other academies. Nothing inherently wrong with that as youth players do move from one academy to another but we sign a lot of youth players from Bradford’s academies because of Sellars’ favouritism and are they actually much better than lads we already have coming through? Agree about our loan system. We loaned Alfie Taylor to a team in Ireland and I think he made one sub appearance. He’s gone to some non-league team on loan now.
