Who clearly won't cut off their nose to spite their face by 'boycotting'... It's an absolute nonsense!!
How much does hull fair actually contribute to the economy of hull Do hotel bookings soar? Restaurants roaring trade?
Can only think of the food stalls that get anything out of it from the city, all the rides will take their money out of the city. Not sure if the city gets any money from organising it, fees for using it etc. Also it's pretty ****e. Last few years only went for a walk around and some food but its so expensive that there's really no point.
I know Kingfisher and Walton St club really benefit but I doubt many do other than those locally that get food stalls. I would bet a huge % of the money leaves the city
The estimate for 2023 was 600k attended. Even if you work on £10 a head (which in reality will be miles higher), that's £6m. Majority I assume leaves the city. We went last year and burned through £100 quid, it's ridiculous. Personally I hate it, but kids love it.
"...and warned they could even boycott the fair if the plans are not scaled back" Good. Make the plans even bigger till they **** off elsewhere (preferably out of the region altogether).
I'm not sure they splash the cash as much as they used to, but many local businesses used to see a lot of spending, the lads from the fair used to spend thousands in my dad's clothes shop back in the day and I know Westway used to build up stocks of second hand Mercs in preparation for the fair arriving.
Please don't change the narrative, next you'll be mentioning the bus companies increase in passengers that week. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Yeah it just doesn't feel like the businesses surrounding Walton St really get the benefits otherwise you'd see a few more. There will be a few anecdotal instances but I imagine a large proportion of money leaves the city now
I’m still dubious about the plans - poor location and it seems to still not solve the problem of knitting the youth team and first team together Would also be interested in how this will benefit the city outside of the club. There’s long been talk of a ‘sports village’, will there be public use? It’ll benefit youth players undoubtedly, but will the council get money for the land? Is it big enough for any public use whatsoever? The access roads are already poor, will they receive a revamp? Still too many questions over it to work out if it’s in anyway a good idea.
I've no idea how much these fairground rides cost nowadays but I know when they come to my area my children spend a bloody fortune on the grandkids. The wife and I give them a tenner each and I think that gets them a couple or three extra rides but nowt much else? The Irn Bru Carnival that runs over Xmas and New Year in Glasgow works on some sort of wristband system that includes 10 rides or something and it's not overly expensive to gain entry via that system but when you count in food&drink it's an expensive day for families with kids. All in all,the whole set up has become a bit of a rip off these days and something that many families will struggle to afford...
Ask Lee at Walton street club!! He made obsene money last year from the big players of the fair community drinking in his place. The workers go somewhere else but the money men go in Walton Street club. On top of that I would image it is restricted to Stagecoach and EYMS seeing a little uptake with the fair busses, Plod get some over time and Divas gets full of wrong uns for one night when they all come out to play on the night fair is shut.
The flash rides can be really expensive, the Bungee slingshot was £12.50 per person last year, probably be £15 this year (though most decent rides are about a fiver).
Now there’s a blast from the past!! Up there with Tower, waterfront & spiders as Hull cultural icons. I feel sorry for the youth of today. Where do they go to get **** faced drunk??
