Happiest country in Europe. Apart from the 5% who suffer from depression due to Vitamin D deficiency. Canny skiers. Hate the Russians. More beds than the whole of Portugal in one suburb of Helsinki alone. Kinnel, I'm turning into Dutch.
They have a huge number of saunas. Something like one sauna for every 18 people. Definitely more than all the hotel beds in Portugal
Finnish is one of the few European languages that isn’t Indo-European. Others include Estonian and Hungarian which are from the same Uralic family as Finnish and Basque (which is a language isolate).
Where do you all stand on the Carsley not singing the anthem debate? As a monarchy hating atheist I honestly don't sing it myself in private. But, at an important event I probably would sing it. In terms of Carsley though. He represented Ireland as an international player. To sing GSTK in Ireland would be insane and also considering he never sang it during his U21 manager career. Why should he start now?
Don't know if it's still the case, but when I visited Helsinki on business they weren't allowed to advertise bars in any way, so unless you knew that behind an unmarked door lay a drinking establishment then you were out of luck. Given the prices it probably saved us a lot of money though.
Jack grealijsh is 29 today, I have it in my head he’s about 23 and I’m waiting for him to reach his peak and fulfil all the hype. I know he’ll have pl medals. I’m just not sure he’s done what he could have
I really couldn't give less of a **** if anyone sings it or not and for the life of me I can't understand why it's made such a big deal about and why anyone would be bothered (well bar the media trying to drum something up and create clicks etc)
He hasn't, he's yet another that was bought by man city to tick a box, his bank account will be better for it, but his career won't be. That aside, I really don't think he's as good as he's made out to be. He has spirts but not consistent enough for me
He was the big fish in the Villa pool but then becomes one of the many at Citeh. Not sure about the stories that the flair was coached out of him but he undoubtedly became a more conservative player. He was first on the team sheet at Villa, adored by fans and if they won games, his was often the match winning performance. He was like Jarrod Bowen or KLP for us. Bowen of course goes to West Ham where he's still a big fish. I wonder how his career would have progressed if he'd gone to Man City? (I'm not suggesting they were interested by the way, but if he had I doubt he'd now be an English international because he wouldn't have got the club game time. It illustrates how important choosing to play over choosing to sign for a big club is. Some players are starting to realise this. I like the fact that young English players are starting to look abroad where they get game time rather than sign for the top clubs then either languish in the Under 21s or have a sequence of loan spells). Just some rambling thoughts.
TBF i don't think he really had much choice, once man city needed him to tick boxes ( and keep other teams around them weaker ) and where happy to pay the money they did, nobody else was going to compete and at that point he wasn't going to stay at villa. Phillips was the same as well and look what's happened to him due to it and the limited game time
the ireland game was the first time i've seen grealish do anything useful. something went wrong somewhere along the line. players don't always work out at some clubs. look at dave bamber. looked like a fish out of water for us, then went back to blackpool and scored hundreds in the next two seasons. klopp wanted bowen at liverpool supposedly to replace salah. that's quite an ask for anybody. klopp's left and salah hasn't. bowen's happy where he is anyway, and maybe didn't want to explain to his woman's dad why he was leaving west ham. hoping he gets on the scoresheet for england soon.
He’s played 36 50 and 36 times for Man City in the last three seasons and was injured last season. As you say he was immense season before and was constantly praised by Pep Just think he’ll go into management in a few more years and be really hated by English fans
