Their problem is that the minimum wage was set at $7.25 an hour 15 years ago and hasn't changed since, shameful. :emoticon-0138-think

Thats the federal minimum, but individual states set their own and some are much higher. I think the highest state is $16 ISH an hour now

A few do unfortunately still only pay the fed minimum though.

    When does everyone tip?

Some people do it every time.

I rarely do, only at places where I go regular and know the staff really.

When something is exceptionally nice, put extra effort in or just gone that extra mile. Use to tip all the time but not anymore, I don't get tips in my job

This thread is about leisure activities but 90% is about drinking... says a lot about this board

If you think 90% is about drinking don't get a job involving stats. :emoticon-0138-think

In the UK....only when it's great service but never if it's automatically added to my bill without asking.

USA, I'll tip 10-15% depending on what I'm doing but limited to meals and bars and again if they add a service charge they get no tip ( lots of places in the USA the service charge is starting to be mandatory and won't take it off )

Middle east hardly ever and South Africa 10% at meals

I was just thinking how the thread had gone way off topic and then realised it was me who started it!

    If I miscalculated it's because I've had a drink

I agree with most of that, though I feel East Riding has done well with their leisure centres. The gym memberships are very competitively priced compared to private gym memberships and include all other facilities (£36 per month without a tie in). They also have a reduced rate (just £12) for afternoons only. There are no joining fees and often have good introductory offers. Equipment is reasonably good compared to private gyms. I can’t speak for their other gyms, but Haltemprice is usually quite full, and not just on an afternoon. If I try to book some classes, I have to time it at exactly four days before the day, otherwise they are full.
I do agree on the kids having subsidised sport btw. I don’t know how much they charge, but there is always a smattering in the gym.

This was a few years ago, in America (Yosemite) but still irks me!. Ordered a drink for myself and Mrs A at the hotel bar where we were staying. The barman gave me some uninvited advice on the IPA’s they had on offer, which I ignored. The round came to £11 (which at the time was quite steep). I gave him a 20 dollar note. He asked ‘Would you like me to keep the change as a service charge, Sir?’. I impolitely declined his offer and needless to say, we went elsewhere.

That's good to hear. Unfortunately those in power do not have our interests at heart, nor do those pumping poison into our kids, so getting them active and ensuring their physical and mental wellbeing is a bit of a passion of mine.

Totally agree and yet getting kids occupied in meaningful activities has so many benefits; reduction in anti social behaviour, health, reduced crime etc which then leads to longer term financial benefits to justice system, nhs, less unemployment.

At risk of being called a 'conspiricy nut job' strong healthy kids do not create wealth in the same way sick, obese, tech consuming kids do. Pumping them full of junk food from toddler age, programming them with god knows what via you tube, snapchat, tik tok and whatever else they have on their ipads ensures they stay zombie like and hidden away in their room.

Strong, healthy kids grow up to be strong healthy people and they really dont want that! Big pharma needs a sick population.

I'm sure someone will come along and tell us that Autism and ADHD has always been as rife as it is now in schools and young people but unfortunately I dont buy that. It is out of control and for me has to be linked to toddlers having a device shoved in their face since birth and pumped full of junk.

I'm not sure we wiill ever recover from this, I've kept my kids away from as much as I can without them feeling punished but many kids nowadays are already very sick. They cant hold a conversation. I know of someone whos 5 year old kid speaks with an American accent and they think it is hilarious. That shows how much tv he has been watching!!

    Good post,couldn't agree more.

My wife and I often comment, especially during school holidays, how empty and quiet the Streets are nowadays as opposed to our upbringing. When we were kids we were actively encouraged to get out from under our parents feet and go and play football or some or other sport.

Nowadays they're too busy playing it on a laptop or games consule...It's not healthy.
