ibroxnews.com had this to say: "Gers could attempt a last-minute hijack for Alzate by leveraging their higher profile and the promise of first-team football in a more competitive league along with the chance to play in Europe." More competitive league. Arf.
Although medical done yesterday - was said to be announced in next 24 hours - which was said about 10 hours ago…so perhaps the signing is already done and dusted. I know we’ve lost a few late in the day, so no chickens counted here, but think this one is already done.
Alzate is a great signing. Who starts though? Good to know we're looking at free agents. Surely we're looking at a striker too? Connolly stands out tbf. As does former target Maxi Gomez.
Hull City are closing in on the signing of former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate. Hull Live understands Alzate was undergoing a medical at the club this morning having travelled to Hull yesterday. The Tigers announced their 15th signing of the summer just as the transfer window was closing last Friday, but are now set to announce their 16th capture later today after agreeing personal terms with the 25-year-old midfield man. The London-born Colombian international has been without a club since his release from Brighton at the end of last season, with the Seagulls sending the player on loan to Standard Liege for the past two seasons. Boasting Premier League experience Alzate is a player City have kept an eye on for the past two months. Having failed in their bid to land Jonas Meffert from Hamburg during the transfer window, manager Tim Walter has moved to bring in even more midfield reinforcements in the shape of Alzate. Having broken through at Leyton Orient as a 19-year-old, Alzate soon made the switch to Brighton and after a year at the club was sent to Swindon Town for a season. Three years in and around the Brighton first team followed before another loan, this time to Belgium and Standard Leige. Walter will see Alzate join training next week as the Tigers prepare for a Friday night game at home to Sheffield United, with the club in search of a first win of the season after a difficult start to the tenure of the German manager.
Personally, I still believe a good forward is a greater concern. Why we're ignoring Mbaye Niang is beyond me. another club will get him before long. mental he's a free agent. snap him up
Yeah, not suggesting £3million is nothing - but having a 3rd front line striker is better than not having one (or relying on youth).
He’s scored goals wherever he’s been, I thought 3 in 16 for West Brom looked very average but then realised it was in the Premier League and came from 14 starts.
Italian and French League goals return is really very decent. Struggling at West brom doesn't really put me off. I think he'd well in this league
I saw Rak-Sakyi play for the Blunts the other day. Looks a right handful, but at the same time a toss-up between someone who could quickly turn into a player who frustrates the bejabbers off you.
I got quite excited when I heard we might be signing a free agent Obviously I assumed it was a striker
Hopefully a striker still to be done. This more experienced CMer plus a decent striker FA would plug the 2 obvious short comings from the summer window and turn it into a very decent one (that can hopefully be further tweaked in January)
I honestly don't see us signing a striker before January. I agree we needed one but I don't think we'll get one.
Does it mean Our young Ecuadorean is going to get done for been a drug cheat? Or clearly a young kid from a different continent isn’t going to be an ever present and be the man straight away? And does it also mean Simons isn’t good enough to be the starter? it’s all very strange
