There are two kinds of tired. There's the physical tiredness but just as important is the mental side of it. I know we all hate this negative side to side passing we do under Farke but when defending against it, it doesn't half tire you out mentally. It's tough when you track run after run after run but the ball just keeps moving to the other side of the pitch. Eventually you switch off and don't track the run and that's when they play the pass. The key is to keep the ball moving at pace. Sometimes we are too slow and too deep. When I played out wide for a few seasons they used to tell us to make the defenders make decisions. Make runs at them, pull them out of position, try different things and they usually make the right decision. However, if they make one mistake then you're in. The best players will just persistently go at their opposite number until they **** up. Solomon did this brilliantly today. Joseph is really good at it.
Entertaining game, win & clean sheet, 3 debuts with A LOT of promise, more pace, & a nice sunny day for once. It would be a good day if that was all, but seeing Everton at the bottom of the table on 3 points has made it a great day for me. EDIT: Oops! Meant Everton on 0 points after 3 games.
I still get the feeling if Everton lost every game for the season they would somehow miraculously survive. There would be three teams on minus or something to save them
Talking about Joseph, I thought his defensive duties were great and also when being subbed he had a smile on his face.
Off thread a bit, my eldest brought his son, my grandson to his first game today and he loved it. Loads of photos when they met the players in the Hotel. That's how I got my boys into Leeds utd by actually taking them to see a game, unlike the gloryhunters who support teams because they win things and who have never seen them live.
Sorry guys, but I feel the need to do further gloating - Everton & the 3 promoted teams now have only 2 points out of 36 to share between them. Long may this continue!
Two thoughts from the game. Was it Joseph that sprang the trap for our second with his ball to Firpo? If so, like the second against Wednesday, that was what Rutter brought to the team at his best and, two, as soon as Firpo played it across field to Piroe, Rodon put his arms up in the air like the ball was already in the back of the net because Joel one on one from 12 yards = 1 outcome
Yeah, he looks a proper striker. The pass to Dan James last week was top class. If De Bruyne does it then they have a 5 minute segment on match of the day about him being a genius. I love Aaronson's attitude and workrate too. It's been a pleasant suprise.
Lots of happiness and positivity on here tonight, Narco you been dishing out your best gear?. A decent start to the season, pity we have a stupid break now.
Silly Este, you never dish out your best gear…… you mix it with some talcum powder and still sell it for top dollar innit?
Even better was the fact that it was Firpo who intercepted/blocked/tackled one of their players initially knocking it inside. He then continued his run and when it was laid back to him by Joseph, played a top class cross to Piroe. As much as I feel his defending is often, woeful, he does cross a ball into good areas when we break quickly. He did it against the Owls last week but DJ just couldn’t lay a foot on it.
