I am not going to get carried away on a wave of expectation again. Will see how they get on, fingers crossed they continue in the way they have started the season and those coming into the team after the inevitable injuries to the starting eleven are a bit more successful in keeping the momentum going than in previous campaigns.
What’s slightly deflating as well is that Bamba we seemed to bid for late looks absolutely perfect, based purely off my Wikipedia scouting. good goalscoring record and noted for his off the ball movement and pressing abilities. should have been in for him sooner.
I lost my head in rage late last night but the info was right at 4 in and I am happy in the main. Just wish they got a higher caliber of striker.
Excited to see the new lads mind. Including the strikers. We could have sorted it and none of us know.
I think it was a 7/10 window that was one main guy (be it Orban, Fofana or Bamba) away from a 9/10. Who knows tho. We may look back at this in a few months and thank the lord that we didn’t bring in a loan to block Mayenda.
I'm gutted we didn't get Orban, even more annoyed that it could have been because Birmingham decided to spunk 20m on Stansfield. That being said the team as a whole is better IMO.
I understand what you're saying, but I think we should wait and see what kind of goal threat we present with these players. We may not miss the one, definitive striker we've been looking for.
oh absolutely, we have no option but to wait and see and hope. Doesn’t stop the feeling of deflation now though.
Insane that mind, they are really rolling the dice because if something goes wrong they are in trouble.
Stay optimistic mate...this is not the time to get deflated. This club never fails to surprise us...you never know. We'll see how we get on after these new players have had preparation before Plymouth. Difficult match today!
Agreed. The big thing for me, though, is the realisation that the fanbase’s idea of what a ‘proven’ striker would give us is not necessarily related to reality. It’s about a warm feeling more than it’s actually about production. The idea in peoples heads is consistent goals from the off. The reality is that two goals by January can still end in a season where people say ‘that’s what proven gets you’
The Stansfield deal is horrendous business and I really don't understand it. To me it looks like Birmingham have asked how much would it cost and Fulham have said a figure they thought Birmingham would never say yes to and they for some reason said yes. It's great business by Fulham. He cost £15m yesterday, today he's worth maybe £10m at the most. They won't be able to make a profit on him for maybe 2 years and that would involve a great season in League One and promotion plus a 15 goal season in the championship. It's not like they needed him either. Owners signing players based on appeasing the fans never ends well.
It's like when Liverpool bought Andy Carroll from the mags. They just picked a daft figure as a starting price and were amazed Liverpool agreed straight away (heard that from a Newcastle director at the time)
Says a lot about the inflated nature of the sport in 2024, a few on here were saying we should sign Stansfield "for only £6m", goes to show the reality.
