Could certainly rise, just a lot of unknowns ATM, the missing out on a standout striker yet again it a huge negative though imo
We were interested in yoksulu back in mid july Then meffert On deadline day Whats that about? And tbh tan and acun need to stop saying pr lines about players we are going to sign It just sets expectations higher and blows up in their face
I'm really happy with the window. We often played last year without a striker so no problem. Bedia will play up top and be a star..I have foreseen it..we have competition and back up all across the squad. We have had a great window (well. 2 weeks). Now let's see them rip TWS apart to win my 10/1 bet
All ifs and buts...but, if Bedia or Burstow turn out to be an effective striker we're not in a bad position.....big if tho....
Im not too concerned about goals because when you get a functioning team they will come from different areas, I just worry that neither of our striking options have a great deal to offer in all around play. Bedia seems to come alive when the balls within a few feet of him but outside that he does't really exert himself.
And that’s the problem isn’t it The management should be taking out the IF by buying quality We had the money No one’s expecting a fifty million quid goal scorer but you need some proven quality fingers crossed bother strikers turn out great But that’s luck and you can’t afford to trust to luck at this level
It’s not Acun’s style though, is it? He always over-promises. During Summer 2022 he said he would spend big on a striker and wouldn’t skimp on one. Two years later and that never came to fruition in any transfer window. In the recent Q&A, he said how much he loves deadline day and the excitement it generates. He also said we’d sign two strikers minimum and definitely a third if Óscar left. It just seems like style over substance with him a lot of the time. 6/10 for this summer is fair as we’ve signed some decent young players but we’re overstocked in some areas and have huge gaps in key positions like holding midfield and a top striker. If Zambrano gets a ban then it’s not looking great in terms of how the new manager wants us to play. We really should’ve signed Meffert in July or early August before signing Zambrano.
I just think he has quite high potential, showed it at academy level and did okay at Charlton. He has all the attributes needed, pace, good technical ability, and works hard. I don’t think we should judge him on his time at Sunderland and he’s coming to the age now where he’s going to put it all together.
Each got a reasonable chance last week; Burstow’s chest down and shot on goal was well worked but he should have finished it, Bedia’s overhead kick was opportunist but you’ve gotta buy a ticket to win the lottery. What we haven’t been doing is creating chances for whichever striker we’ve played so far. If we can do that then they both look capable of finishing.
Window review 7 / 10 If we didn't get Palmer and Kamara for me it would've been between 5 and 6. Yes, I rally wanted a good striker but, you strikers can only score goals by the players that deliver the ball. Palmer has flashes of brilliance with his deliveries. If he can find the consistency then It's exciting. Tufan replacement which I wanted for a few weeks. We haven't had a good rw since Bowen. Kamara could be that player. He smashed it for Portsmouth last season so let's see if he's ready for the step up. I'm confident Palmer, Millar and Kamara can get the best out of Bedia and Burstow. But, the ball into an area where they can't miss then happy days.
Hopeful but no guarantee It took Chuba akpom years after he left us to actually show his potential Let’s hope he does it
I also think its unfair to burstow himself Due to our signings He will inadvertently have a lot more pressure on him When hes a cheap long term player But hes 1 of only two strikers so..
There is still plenty of free players out there that maybe they could or are looking at that could do a decent job for a season so maybe they are looking at some of those as possible cover for up front.
