I was thinking of writing my thoughts on the overall window and this pretty much sums it up tbh. I think Bogle makes us slightly more potent in attack but losing Archie makes us slightly more vulnerable at right back. We really need Joseph to flourish or, if he struggles or gets injured, Piroe needs to be the player we thought we were buying. We may get 10 decent games out of Bamford, who knows? He doesn’t worry me if he can actually get fit. Slightly off topic but I raised a big eyebrow at Birmingham yesterday. A league One side paying £10 million for a striker (Jay Stansfield) from Fulham is either genius or reckless. The sort of ambition people cry out for or the Ridsdale school of wrecking a football club? We shall see. If our owners, management and recruitment team felt that Sheffield United overpriced Hamer were they right to not push the boat out on one player for a few extra million? We shall see, roll on the season proper
I think sometimes there’s a market value for a player and sometimes it’s more about what he’s worth to your club at that time. If we felt we really needed Hamer, as a route to the prem, then we should have been prepared to pay a bit over the odds. You can make a good argument we don’t need him, with the people who can play 10… and I’m looking forward to seeing more of Gnonto in a central/floating role. You can also make a good argument that we’ve been looking for a natural 10 for years and Hamer is proven quality at this level.
Think it’s quite difficult to judge the effectiveness of the window, mainly because we don’t yet know how DF intends to use those he’s brought in. Are they gonna be first choice or squad fillers, if the former who will they replace. Tbh it also is dependent on how it went for all our promotion rivals, whoever they may be. Was disappointed that we didn’t get a specialist 10, and a back up CB. However perhaps the Gnonto/Aaronson performance from the Sheff Weds game, even accepting how poor Wednesday were, will be a regular tactical ploy for the season. I do worry about suspensions/injuries which is why I was disappointed we didn’t get another CB. However maybe it gives opportunities for the better U21 players some game time. Once Solomons fit, think he’ll excel at this level. The rest of the recent newbies I know nothing about, let’s hope we chose well. MOT
I've done a bit of a low down of our 10 position on a different thread if you want to see stats on our existing players.
I really didn’t mind no extra CB as we have Wober, and now the window is closed his only option is to focus and knuckle down. We also have Ampadu who prefers the CB position.
I think the Hamer thing could well be the defining moment of our season. Farke now has a better squad, a more valuable squad than any other team in the league. If we go up hes a genius if we fail is it because we never spent an extra £3m for Hamer. Mind you how long have we not bought a true LB for?
Morning all. Feeling a little bit disappointed with the transfer dealings. Lost our two best players, recruited quality in Solomon who we know is good if he can get back to full fitness, the others brought in on the last day are gambles.
if we viewed the 10 role on the SW game that could have shades of West Ham in that January transfer window. I think we have to wait and see but Hamer I'm sure would have done it for us.
Might be best to avoid wilder interviews for a couple of weeks. He’s gonna do some sneering and gloating over our efforts at Hamer
Genuinely unsurprised. Whatever the reasons for announcing this now (clubs PR in overdrive), his performances this year, hasn’t given me the idea he was pushing to leave.
**** me. What clauses have they added to get him to sign that? Loan clause if we don't go up? £20 million release clause? The power to force through a move next summer if he wants to? There'll be something in there.
It’s intriguing, isn’t it? I hope it’s not a sign of things to come, especially since it’s related to the new contact talks. I didn’t expect that one at all, to be honest.
Only if he is certain we won’t go back in January and a little seed hasn’t been planted in Hamers’ head No, you’re right, it’s Wilder, he’ll be sneering and gloating
My view on the window. Is Most likely… usually a quid pro quo - but I’m sure mr contracts in his sleep will make sure there’s benefit to the club in there. Good news this.
Don't understand this fixation with hamer I'd have rather had sallai who has played at international level at a major competition and was a cheaper price ...if hamer is all that why has no-one from the prem been sniffing around this window he's decent enough but nothing to get all knicker twisted over
