My benchmark of a good window was whether Slater would still command a place in the starting 11. I think he starts today because the newbies haven’t had sufficient time on the training ground, but I think he struggles to get into the team after the international break.
There's a lot of players who are going to be stuck in a football limbo for at least a few months now - Chelsea as we know have more quality players than they can fit in a squad and even ourselves haven't sent out on loan some lads who we're not going to ever use (mainly goalkeepers). It's short-sighted and stunts their development. Morton is a good example. After the session he had with us last year he now needs games at Championship or Premier League level to kick on. As you say, he isn't going to get them. At best he'll be in and out of Liverpool's matchday squad making fleeting appearances off the bench. There's an argument to be made that a separate loan window should open a day after the permanent transfer window closes and run for a week.
What an odd benchmark. My benchmark for a good window is having a clear idea of how we intend to line up with depth in each position. And a month or two later seeing how those new signings have bedded in.
I've always found him to be anonymous and a large part of why teams would just cut through us with ease. Pops up with the odd goal and people think he's awesome.
The only mitigation I can offer for why Lo-Tutala and Cartwright haven’t gone out on loan, is that they are both injured and unattractive as an immediate first team starter. It’s rotten luck for both players, and the club.
Not hugely, striker the big question to me. Weirdly burstow and bedia seem suited to playing together?
Liverpool's fault for wanting 20m for him, no way he's worth more that Greaves, Philogene adn similar to Delap
we’ve shifted on some top earners, probably added a couple more of decent salaries, raised a decent amount in transfer fees and bought younger players who for some will have great sell on values. Club in a good place financially we hope
I’ve slept on it, not very well but I’ve slept on it I think Rushworth and burns are the two on loan without an option. The other loans have an option, so hopefully they’ll perform and we’ll buy them. We’ve signed some decent young players(according to some on here, I know nothing about them). So potentially we have a decent squad although I’m not sure it’ll achieve better than 7th. Hopefully some of them have good resale values aswell. We didn’t need a keeper and we probably didn’t need kp, we should have used that money to get the kid from Germany, the one some in here thought would pull walterball together. So we’ve added depth with players we own or have the option to own which is good. My “dog with a bone”(for Syd) is acun and tan over promised and under delivered in a striker….again. Oscar’s now moved to 3 different clubs in the last 3 windows and they haven’t replaced him. They’ve known for months the situation about a striker, in fact they’ve known since the start of last season and yet we are making last ditch efforts yesterday.
I’m happy with our transfer business, yes it would’ve been great to get a big surprise striker but I honestly think Bedia and Burstow will get goals if they get the chances that’s why most importantly we’ve bought two good wingers, and exciting midfielders with Zambrano and Puerta. Not forgetting some extra creativity with Palmer too.
