But the guy was prosecuted and given a sentence. And he didn't throw any concrete. He threw his coffee cup and "something he pulled from the bin". I am not sure where all this two-tiered crap comes from. I keep asking for some actual evidence and getting ignored. It's almost like the people who keep saying this aren't lawyers.
It's so tiring. You write a very detailed and careful response to something, outlining the evidence. It gets ignored but then people come back a day later and post more of the same dog whistle nonsense.
Hence why i just started (accurately) using the “troll” label. People don’t like that even when it is accurate. And now the “ignore” function as well. Which I don’t really like the idea of but it’s necessary for sanity when some people just refuse to engage in good faith whilst also getting increasingly ugly with their rhetoric (and then acting offended when called out)
Not sure people understand the point. I referred to the point about a crime being a crime and being punished in the same way - think it was Archers perhaps making a point about it being a good thing depending on who the crime was against. I then made the point to Spider-Man, think they suggested as it wasn’t ABH it wasn’t an issue (paraphrasing), and I inertejcted as the crime of throwing a milkshake was battery. I am married to a lawyer.
Sorry, Billy. Not everything here is aimed at you! I don't agree with Archers. A crime is a crime. I do believe these crimes are dealt with properly and that the law is not political on things like this. I have yet to see one person treated differently due to their political leaning. Case in point being: Former Labour Councillor has not pleaded guilty and so obviously not yet been tried, whereas all the racist rioters did plead guilty and so were tried quickly. I also think a London Festival is different to a race riot. But you aren't the one making these comments.
Some more evidence of where that two-tier crap comes from. It will probably be derided because it comes from Spiked or some other attempt to discredit it so don't bother replying just read it. https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/08/09/two-tier-policing-is-not-a-myth/ https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/07/17/grooming-gangs-the-making-of-a-national-scandal/
Research by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue has found that extreme far-right content is thriving on TikTok. “We posted stuff on our brandnew [sic] tiktok account with 0 followers but had more views than you could ever have on bitchute or twitter. It just reaches much more people,” wrote one enthused fascist on Telegram. Full story in the new Private Eye, out now. please log in to view this image
"It is certainly true that some on the online right are overegging the extent of two-tier policing. Some ask why the ‘white working-class protesters’ of the past week or so are being cracked down on so harshly, particularly when compared with other ‘protests’. The obvious answer being that they have done so much worse than just protest – they have rioted, menaced mosques, tried to burn down asylum hotels, vandalised shops while shouting ‘smash the Pakis’. Any attempts to deny or downplay the despicable racism and violence of the past two weeks’ riots, or to equate them with legitimate, peaceful protest, need to be given short shrift." This is exactly how some on here have presented it. Exactly. Even spiked see it as "despicable". The fact the article then goes on to use Harehills as its example is quite weak, in my opinion. Harehills was an outbreak of rioting within a neighbourhood JUST LIKE THE WHITE RIOT THAT HAPPENED IN WALES LAST YEAR. 2023 Cardiff riot - Wikipedia Spontaneous rioting is never dealt with in the same way as pre-planned actions. I totally agree though - two-tier policing is overegged by the right. Thanks for finding an article to prove it! EDIT to point out the article is also full of lies. Like this one: "Niyak Ghorbani, an exiled Iranian dissident, has been arrested on multiple occasions for holding up a sign that accurately describes Hamas – the anti-Semitic terror group behind the 7 October massacre – as ‘terrorists’. " But when you spend two minutes looking up what happened you find this: Scotland Yard said in a statement: “The man was arrested after an altercation was ongoing, and officers intervened to prevent a breach of the peace. He was arrested for assault. “Officers then fully reviewed footage provided of the incident, and he was later de-arrested. The arrest was not made in relation to the placard.” If you have to change the truth to make your argument work... you may not have a very firm foundation for your opinion.
I accepted your point and the law will deal with these things appropriately but battery by a milkshake isn’t the worse kind and I was just saying I also found it funny, but I’m not taking it that seriously as I’m not involved and there are worse things to worry about
Here’s where £8m a day goes, and that’s before the other costs of leaving refugees in limbo claiming benefits rather than working … James Cleverly has been accused of increasing the asylum backlog in the spring of this year by “dithering” over key decisions Overall, 118,882 people were waiting for an initial decision on asylum applications in the UK at the end of June, up slightly from the 118,329 in March The backlog as one of the biggest problems within the UK’s faltering asylum system. Hotels housing claimants awaiting decisions cost the taxpayer £8m a day, according to the Home Office, and were the focus of far-right protests and arson attacks during this summer’s riots About three-quarters of all claimants are eventually recognised as refugees, but cannot work and must claim benefits while they wait for a decision Fran Heathcote, the general secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), which represents asylum caseworkers says “Our members tell us that processing of claims has started to ramp up again since replacement arrangements were introduced in the king’s speech.”
It’s almost as if they didn’t want it solved in a timely manner to make a political issue over it. To be able to push Rwanda scheme but in general. It’s what the right did in America so why not here?
Definitely agree that the Tories used asylum seekers as a political issue. Since Labour took power, as of 21st Aug there have been 9 “return” flights, removing failed asylum seekers. I don’t know how many people were on each of those flights but one was said to have had around 200. I don’t know how this compares to what was happening under the tories but it’s a seemingly decent start.
The former ‘Minister for Common Sense’ has come out with a classic, just in case we needed a reminder of what a true joke of a government really looks like. ‘First they came for the communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a communist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me Pertinent words re Starmer’s smoking ban’ Slow clap for Esther McVey, thank you for lending us some perspective.
I think 200 is more than the max amount that the Rwanda scheme could have done in a year. Might be misremembering. The numbers were not high
Kamala Harris has said she would appoint a Republican to her cabinet if she wins, though she didn’t have a specific Republican or position in mind I think this is a brilliant idea and a great gesture to try and start to fix the polarisation that currently exists in US politics
