Couldn’t agree more Quality now is the most important, not minutes for Mayenda who could be a good forward one day.
There are a lot of matches over the season in this league mate.....we need adequate cover all over the pitch.
It is weird, unless he's so far away from being ready he's going to spend more time with the under 23s than the first team. But to me, that doesn't marry up with someone supposed to have been rated at €12 million last season, unless there's more going on that we don't know about. Injuries? Attitude? Plus from Cardiff's point of view it's strange in that they need a striker now, but are signing him for next year, still leaving them short now. Plus after a poor start they could be under pressure and if they get sucked into a relegation fight it would be even more odd to leave yourself weaker by signing someone potentially on a sizable deal that you can't use instead of someone to give you an edge now. It just seems to create more questions the more you think about it.
Isidor looks more suited to playing from the left in my opinion and I'm not too concerned about Mayenda's minutes. I like that we develop younger players but I don't want it to be charitable minutes. 2 proper strikers in will give him competition and he can fight for a place. Jobe and Rigg are facing plenty of competition in midfield and fighting their way in past more established players. I don't see why the same challenge shouldn't be there for Mayenda.
If you look at who we've brought in (or about too) in midfield. I think it's an indication that RLB wants players who can play the system he wants, without the standards dropping. Look at it this way and you and RLB are on the same page
No agree. But these players are either good enough to get minutes or they're not. The biggest issue we had last season was that we didn't have the minutes to give to promising players (IMO) and their development suffered. Our squad at 26 is too big even now IMO. I don't think we can keep bringing in player after player 'just in case'. Eventually you just end up wasting your cash. RLB has talked about having a group of around 20 trusted players. I get the impression he's not into massive squads.
What is 'adequate' though? Four players for one spot is overkill in my view. Again there's approx 5000 mins available for strikers this season. A nailed on first teamer takes 3-3.5k. Are we really gonna have all that transfer fee and all those wages sat up in the stands most weeks? I know it's a different world, but the two best club sides in the country (who are also two of the smartest run clubs in the world) barely have 4 strikers between them. Don't get me wrong we need to be sure we've got the quality - and I'm not gonna turn my nose up at another one. But if we get one striker bang on in the remainder of this window, we won't have much need for another IMO.
It's not the same challenge, though. Striker minutes (just like keeper ones) are harder to get hold of. There's only one of each in a team after all. The likes of Rigg and Jobe effectively have 3 spots to get into either for a start or off the bench. There's just more room for manoeuvre in midfield. Keeper is much worse of course. That's why Young had to go out - and why nobody in the fanbase is asking for a third high quality keeper.
Think we could be in for Robert Bozenik or Danny Namaso? Our scouts were over in portugal to watch Boavista when they were both there, maybe one we've been working on behind the scenes?
Lewis Baker joining Blackburn on loan from Stoke Always rated him, he just struggled to settle anywhere after so many loan moves.
