Worth saying about that squad grid. Still amounts to a first team squad of 26 - which is a lot. Also I tend to think it's better to view the squad in groups rather than individual roles. Individual roles tends to amplify the idea of scarcity more than it should be IMO. That squad amounts to 9 defenders for 4 spots, 7 midfielders for 3 spots, 4/5 wingers for two spots and 2/3 strikers for one spot. That's decent cover IMO. Maybe uncertainty about quality in one of those groups, but a fairly healthy spot in truth. And I fully expect one or two further additions to happen before tomorrow evening.
Not that he’s featured much, but it’s another out of the door at Burnley… please log in to view this image
That’s fair enough, we’ll all see it differently I just feel we’d be a little short in forward areas to mount a promotion challenge.
Yeah indeed. Probably only AA who is at risk of leaving from that squad of 26. In truth our first team squad currently stands at a slightly ridiculous 33!
Number isn't the problem, quality is. Regardless of the number in that striker group, we need 2 more in my view. 1 is the absolute minimum.
26,if that's what we end up with, isn't bad....a cover for every position,an extra goalie and a couple of young fringe players.
An option but far from ideal Long hard season, I just hope we have enough quality to maintain the high standards we’ve set so far when injuries and suspensions kick in.
A solid first choice striker, Isidor, Mayenda as third choice and then Rusyn or Hemir for emergencies. I think even with that mix our most likely challenge next season will be to find enough minutes for Mayenda to continue his development, rather than running out of players to fulfil the role.
It does, but we have a couple of long-term injuries. In my view, regardless of any incomings,I'd expect Pembele,Anderson,Ekwah,Bennette,Hemir and may be Rusyn to go,either on loan or permanent. That thins it down a bit.
I still believe Isidor will be used wide at times too, probably off the left Mundle has bags of potential but he’s 21 and can’t be relied upon week in, week out. He hasn’t played a great deal of football.
Struggle to see it as essential IMO. Two frontline strikers means barely any minutes through the middle for Isidor - and virtually none at all for Mayenda. The risk if we don't get it right goes up, of course, but if we do nail it with one striker then the need for two disappears almost completely.
Definitely a strange one Can’t believe our deal for him fell through today and he’s immediately off to Cardiff. Suspect it’s been off for a few days went very quiet after the initial reports So we move on hopefully they can pull a rabbit out of the hat. First three games have shown we can cope but can’t help thinking an experienced strong centre forward transforms this team Into definite promotion contenders
If where exploring South America, just give me a Argentinian striker I’ve never heard about to get excited about.
