Seems to be a mirror of the Samed deal in a way. We're covered this year and possibly have the funds next summer from one to make the other permanent if we're all happy.
I slated Roberts last season and I still hold the same opinion on him to be fair. His end product just isn’t there most of the time. Against Burnley he was a man on a mission I even said he was my MOTM over Mundle which is saying something because Mundle was top drawer but this is the problem with Roberts and this is why he’s playing in the championship. There’s no consistency and it’s difficult to make a case for him being the best right winger in the league when he returned 1 assist all season or whatever it was. His dribbling and link up play is exceptional, arguably second to none in his position in this league but that’s only a part of his game. You expect inconsistency from the younger players but not really at the age of 27/28.
Could always come good and hope he does, but on watching him last year and what we've seen of him in pre season and the cup game I don't think he can be trusted at least not atm
Always an issue with Alese. Really looks solid but has a knack of always being injured. Has a poor record of staying fit. We need Ballard back and ideally, stop him going to international duty.
Paddy Roberts was signed back in 2015 as an 18 year old by Man City for £12m, a designated "wonderkid", nailed on for England caps and not just a few either. The reason he plays for Sunderland and not Man City is that there are a few problems he was unable to iron out, like consistency and perhaps confidence, something he looked more and more bereft of as last season went on. Loads of Championship teams are happy to field a run of the mill winger who will give you 5-7 goal contributions a season, this league has plenty of those, or you can roll the dice with Paddy and get 12 (as he did in the playoff season) followed by the season he had last year.
Incidentally, I assume us getting Aleksic puts an end to any interest we may have had in Enzo Bardeli?
He should take a leaf out of Ryan Giggs book. He seemed to be a bit injury prone at times when Wales wanted him to play.
Hmm not sure about rejecting 6 million for ekwah to then accept a loan to maybe get an extra million next year ?
To be fair Roberts really was very poor last season and Jobe looked like he was struggling with the constant change in positions and no break. Mundle wasn't that bad just a bit raw. They have all massively improved and it can't be a coincidence that we have a proper head coach now.
