Just imagine the budget next summer though (January is a tough month to get value etc ...)... ...Especially after we ship Isak, Guimaraes and maybe Gordon.
Maybe he club is taking us for a ride and will pull he old Ashley trick of 'we tried but failed'... so onto the next window..... or maybe they will blame it on Mandy going and the disharmony etc...
This is why I said I had reservations from start about his ability.. obi told me off. Look now you're all facing accusations of mental gymnastics.
Howe will probably have dug his heels in on Guehi to the point there is no other option. I don't see Newcastle as the type to just buy anyone instead. There's now no time.
We have a new England player https://x.com/JacobsBen/status/1829140262070947895?t=2uSduMqi7-Z_haMPCjQN3Q&s=19
In terms of the impact it will have on our ability to strengthen in future windows, it's probably better to sign no one than overspend to the tune of around £40million. Less than ideal for our chances of achieving a high finishing position this season though, which as previously discussed, will likely help inform current squad members opinions on staying or going. If we've rejected opportunities to sign other CBs at more reasonable prices, due to being too fixated on one player, then whoever is responsible for that should be accountable for the situation and any impact resulting from it.
It's that time where everyone announces they're pleased we're not signing anyone for various reasons. There may be a few people that take a little longer to perform this mental gymnastic( I went early) but some are so skilled at the technique that they will also employ the NO I really am pleased second phase.
Surely everyone is annoyed that someone so obsessed over Guehi that it became to the detriment of all (if reports are accurate)?
We'll never know but I suspect Howe has either dug his heels in or the club are ****ing Howe over. One of the two
With the calibre of people at the football club this would be very strange. Howe saying he's got a very good relationship developing with Mitchell, Eales talking up Howe in June, constant statements about the fact "we are being backed", etc. There's time, I suppose, it just feels like we're not doing anything other than walkng away from Guehi shaking our heads. What's odd about this is that haven't a lot of people been saying for weeks that it's obvious we're being diddled on that deal by Palace? Parish is a nightmare anyway, but how on earth nobody at the club moved on fairly quickly to other targets is as much of a mystery as paying £40m for Barnes and keeping Murphy and Almiron on the right. Not an indication, but I did a couple of searches for "best CB" and Marc Guehi doesn't appear on any list. Granted one I looked at was only a FIFA list, but he's not even in the top 100 on that. Kind of intimates there are at least 99 CBs who could improve on Krafth. I think there's probably 999 who could. Yet we're looking at 1.
