If there is a chance we could improve our overall chances we should take it. As good as Smallbone/Aribo have been.. Can't just cut our nose to spite our face.
    Hopefully it comes off.
Day dreaming of Downes - JWP - Fernandes midfield.

Ok, but then one of the other CMs will miss out regularly. Not that I’m against not seeing much of Aribo or Smallbone this season now that we have other options, but I’m not sure they will feel the same way

And Aribo’s wages are one of the highest left over

Well then that could be it, instead of signing a winger in the next couple of days we get JWP and use Dibling as a winger.

Be interesting to see how it all unfolds

Does also align with there not being as many attacking options available for loan as some assumed. You have people on Saintsweb calling for the loan of a proven premier league striker. Those aren’t really loaned out unless there are serious issues (like injuries). And even then there aren’t many of them

I made a list last week and posted here. One of the people on it has gone on loan to Leeds. Suggesting not quite the level we want. I didn’t think of Cornet back then but I did think of JWP and Ings (but maybe didn’t include them at the time)

I’m sure West Ham want a sale but they might struggle and likely want the wage bill trimmed

Can probably stand down on the JWP situation as Alex Crook is talking about it …

Just don’t see the point in bringing JWP back on loan really. We already have more than enough options and it’s our most stacked position for quality too. Meanwhile we have **** all on the wings and minimal up front.

Only if we can get the reinforcements we think we need on the wings without a PL loan (there won’t be any PL loan strikers available) AND we can move on one of Smallbone or Aribo on either a temporary of permanent basis

Under those circumstances if the wage budget is there then I wouldn’t be averse to it. Clear upgrade on Smallbone at the very least and brings the set pieces back

But I’d want us to secure the other moves first. Ideally at least one winger and this Brazilian striker on loan. And then this JWP thing be deadline day if everything else is sorted and there is still space

I'm not in the know at all, but we won't be bringing JWP back in this window. Never going to happen. We don't need any more in his position and we wouldn't bring him back to play in a more advanced position, where he hasn't really proved himself before (apart from a few decent games). I'm not anti it btw; i really like JWP, but it just smacks of lazy journalism to me.

Right I am off to bed. Hopefully I wake up to read, Ramsdale and JWP have both officially signed, and a top end centre forward is close. I can dream can't I?

I think Martin also said as much about this position as well. Although he also said we wouldn’t be making high price signings for players who would command big wages and that seemed to have been proven wrong within 24 hours

Signing JWP would allow us to play a 3-6-1.

    Ramsdale
    Bednarek, THB, Stephens
Suga, Downes, Smallbone, JWP, Aribo, KWP
    Armstrong

    Easily a 15th placed finish.

    Downes
    Smallbone, Ugochukwu, Aribo, Fernandes
    Dibling, JWP, Charles, Lallana
    Akachukwu, O’Brien-Whitmarsh

Yeah we can only field an 11 of midfielders if we bring in JWP and include youth so plenty more room to bring in more midfielders.

A goal with either foot (unless I'm mistaken?). And both struck very sweetly.

(On the assumption it will be too soon for Ramsdale)

    ----------------------------McCarthy----------------------------
    -Sugawara---Stephens------Bednarek-----KWP--------
    --------------Ugochukwu---------Downes--------------------
    -------------------------Fernandes------------------------------
    ---Dibling---------------Archer-------------------Diaz--------

    Subs

    Lumley
    Harwood-Bellis
    Taylor
    Bree
    Smallbone
    Aribo
    Lallana
    Amo-Ameyaw
    Armstrong

No chance this gets picked but anyway.

If someone already thinks something will be bigger than they think it will be, are they already thinking it’s bigger? And therefore do they really think it’s bigger twice?

But in that instance do they already think it will be bigger twice and therefore they actually think it will be bigger thrice?

    And so on…..

I'd switch in THB for Stephens for one, but otherwise I like that team. Would far rather we signed Aaron Ramsdale than Madge Ramsey though.

I agree this won’t get picked as there are far too many changes in one go
