They would presumably have sold it as a higher likelihood that small clubs lower down the football pyramid will draw one of them and get a big pay day. When we all know that it’s just them trying to make it even less likely that anyone but one of them wins a cup. On Sky they said with the extra European games there aren't enough dates available if they play each other. I don't know how that can be true and suspect they could work around it if they held off making this draw until after the European draws are done.

I assume there's a risk one team will have a European game one mid-week and the other have one the next mid-week? But again, if you hold off making this draw until after the European draws (which are done tomorrow and Friday) then you can work that out.
