I'm not being rude but how does that work? If Ramsdale is under pressure and can't find a teammate with a short or midrange pass or makes a mistake more than is needed inside his own penalty area because he is being asked to do something he is not comfortable with for Arsenal, why would he be better at doing it for Southampton? They're are all football players and if you can't pass a short pass to a teammate under pressure for Arsenal you can't do it for Saints, especially if you believe the bloke you are passing it to isn't as good as a former teammate. If he is bad at this type of football, and I have no real idea if he is, he'll be bad at it.
To be fair, Arsenal moved on from him because they could get David Raya - who has probably been the best GK over the past 12 months and has been a seriously long-term target for Arteta. He plays like an outfielder. Arteta only signed Ramsdale because they weren't getting anywhere with Brentford in Raya negotiations back in 2021
And he probably will be pressed more at Saints than at Arsenal as teams will be more aggressive against us as we aren’t as good as Arsenal
Yes, we seem to have forgotten that our current goalkeeper resembles Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz Tin Man riddled with rigor mortis
I would have thought (if it's possible) a loan with an obligation if we stay up. Means Arsenal might be pacified, and would calm Ramsdale's (understandable) concerns about dropping to the Championship. Either that or a sensible relegation release clause.
It is more to do with standards. He may not be good enough to play that way for Arsenal, because they expect better and can get in Raya as the alternative. At Saints, you are only up against Macca/Bazunu, so the standard required to be considered "good enough" is a lot lower. Ramsdale would be the best keeper Saints have had in absolutely ages. There is a reason Arsenal spent over £20m on him in the first place.
I cannot speak (or should that be write?) for others, Ramsgate is definitely a significant upgrade as a keeper, but my (limited) understanding is that he was dropped because he could not play the passing out of the back style demanded by Arteta. So he is a huge plus as a keeper but will RM have to compromise on his style of play to accommodate him. Cannot see RM letting that happen, but l would welcome some more variety when in possession.
I don't remember it quite the same way. I seem to remember Ramsdale was getting huge praise for his play at Arsenal and a lot of people were shocked he was replaced. If he was making McCarthy style clangers all the time, that wouldn't have been the case.
For what it's worth, the reasons that Arteta moved on from Ramsdale are: - He always wanted David Raya initially, his GK coach (Inaki Cana) is ex-Brentford and Arsenal tried repeatedly to get Raya before Ramsdale - Ramsdale can be quite a volatile character, he's a really big personality and can be quite brash and rub people up the wrong way - He said this: https://x.com/RN24_AFC/status/1724189251779104869 The last thing marked his card with Arteta quite a bit, as I understand it. When he was dropped, Arsenal fans were up in arms as he was incredibly popular and considered to be a better shot-stopper than Raya
18-year-old Nice midfielder Daouda Traore is signing for Saints, per L'Equipe: https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Act...ransferer-daouda-traore-a-southampton/1503943
He’s meant to be Nice’s best youngster. Goztepe are building a super team, and will win the Super Lig. Anyone want to move to Izmir?
I guess it’s safe to assume the loan will definitely be to them? Seems there aren’t caps on loans in that league
