I'm still not sure that the two-loan limit extends to overseas loans. FIFA's own limit for 2024-25 is, I believe, six loans. In theory there is nothing to stop the PL from having their own, lower, loan limit. But the two limit rule in the PL handbook refers just to domestic loans.
Yeah my recollection is that he wouldn’t sign a new deal and it looked like we were happy to just go into the last year of his deal and leave on a free (like Adams and Stu) but then Villa made an offer we couldn’t refuse. At the time I remember some being a bit shocked he chose Villa when he could’ve gone on a free the following year and people thought he would go to a Spurs or someone like that, but then a percentage of our fans thought JWP was top 4 level so probably best ignored
It’s the registering loans in the 25 man squad that restricts it (in my view anyway, the rules aren’t very clear at all). You can only register 2 loan players in your 25 man squad at any one time. Players u21 not needing to be registered confuses things for loans like Ugochuckwu who are on loan, but technically don’t need to be registered. I’ve no idea if there is a rule about u21 only applying to players on your books full time
Option 1 is fine if we spend the money wisely. But as I've said previously, I can just see SR totally wasting it.
Plenty of ‘poor fee’ chat about Alcaraz but the Flamengo deal is/was the highest offer anyone has made in 18 months and interesting that he never had any serious interest in Europe beyond speculative loan attempts…
For me, Charly is a player where ‘idea of Charly’ far outweighs ‘reality of Charly’ Especially when he wants to be back in South America, hasn’t bothered to learn English and doesn’t understand/fit in to what his teammates are trying to do
Maybe Martin is not alone in the pro football world when he said “fans like him because he runs around a lot and is hot headed, but he’s proper **** at actual football” or something like that
Offers made and he just kept everyone guessing /waiting is my recall and at the time many on here seemed pretty fed up with the situation.
If JWP's place was vacant I'm sure the club would look at him he played well under RM, but the place isn't there and reinforcements are needed elsewhere + he would need a wage cut. There will be a few clubs that will be interested in him for what he adds to set pieces and in commitment.
Vaguely remember that but I personally don't see any issue with him keeping his options open and taking time to assess them. He never made any promises to stay long term of anything like that and as I recall he always seemed to hint at only being here for that one contract.
For each of the past two seasons, Forest have had more than two U21 players on loan at the same time. But never more than two domestic loans. EDIT: I mean over U21!
I am the biggest Charly fan but he will no longer be a Saint so good luck too him, I hope we have a sell on or a buy back if miraculously we survive. Hey ho players come players go.
I usually watch the YouTube video of players when we are making offers and stuff, and usually think…ok they look pretty good. Quiet excited. This Yuri make Che look decent. Most of his assists were shots that were crap
At the risk of repeating myself and others…. the Alcaraz deal is not stupid or anything of the sort; reality has bitten and some fans don’t like it…. He’s not the next Messi, he clearly wants to be closer to home… thats about it…. Some people on here assume he’s going to be amazing based on very little and at the same time he’s going to be worth something ridiculous….
I’m not sure I get the Charly love-in from some. We all want him to be good, but he really hasn’t ever done much for Saints. Wont be losing any sleep over him going, although think it was Brendy saying if it is reinvested well, but nervous. If we are shooting the load straight on Yuri, I fear we haven’t learned a bloody thing. Seems like we are still trying to be too clever. At this rate, I think id rather Onuachu up front, can’t be any worse, and at least is already here. I’m fearing we are doing the same as our relegation season, and pretty much every other manager wouldn’t come in and play the same round and round sideways and backwards play we do under Martin.
