If you take into account the effect Wetherspoons has in reducing the cost per pint, it's probably even worse. Excluding Spoons it could be that the cost of a pint has doubled in real terms. WHY IS NOTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS!!??!??!??
And guess which country has the 2nd highest beer duties in Europe, Europe not just the EU. Add that on to the high cost of electricity, business rates and VAT at 20% whereas in Holland, Germany and some other countries it less than 10% on beer and food sold in bars and restaurants and successive governments and local councils are the most to blame. The beer duties here are 12 times higher than in Germany.
How are local councils to blame? Although they collect business rates the valuation and multiplier are set nationally I think
