It’s not rubbish. The season will be judged at the end of the season. It will be judged against the expectations which are to improve on last season when we finished 7th. Anything less than 7th will be a step backwards, if we’re aiming to improve 6th is where it starts. What is rubbish is people kidding themselves that this is better.
If Rosenior was still here I’d not be expecting him to be getting 6th with what we have now. 64/68 goals gone. Only players who’ve played together consistently is the centre back pairing and Coyle. They’re learning a new complex system whilst building chemistry with one another. Have the performances been ****, yes. Most people who complained at the **** show that was pre season are now expecting Walter to be the best coach of all time. If we are still **** in October, moan. But have some perspective ffs Walter has been saying it’ll take time, do you think he was lying in the hope that other teams believed him and thought we’d be an easy game
No one’s said it’s better. But when you lose 20 players in a pre season and don’t bring in replacements in it you’re going to be playing catch up.
That doesn’t change the expectation of an improvement from last season. The owner has literally said the reason for dropping LR was to make it better.
All felt a bit flat today. Even the guy doing the announcing sounded like he was asking for a "clean-up on aisle 5". 12.30 kick-offs are definitely not how it should be.
A feast of attacking football was had today, just not at the MKM. One passage of play took us seventeen passes to get out of our own half, no prizes for guessing what happened next. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Start of the season id have said any points before the international break are a bonus, but does worry me because we don’t seem very close to being good. Seem miles off being up to speed! Slater got loads of the ball today but he’s not got the quality you want in those areas and concerning that our best technicians in Marvin and Omur are hardly getting a kick. Lack of bravery playing into midfield too which I think is why we look so basic at the moment. Patience needed but a tough watch at the moment!
This... Absolutely bang on with this. Some of these players have good moments, particularly Coyle as he has had a big impact when he's moved up the pitch. He's starting to do it a bit more frequently as well, so I think it's sinking in for him now. These moments however seem to mask the fact all four of them have been pure **** at contributing to the progressive play Walter wants to see... And they're the first phase of it. This is the biggest reason why we haven't really gotten going yet. When these pennies drop or when these players are replaced is when we'll see the biggest improvements. Countless times each one of them has had forward options and instead they've chosen the safe pass, or the keeper pass, which kills the system and the plan for us before we've started attacking. For those that say they want rid of Giles, he's the only one in that back four who currently progresses the ball forwards just about every time he has it. That's why so much goes down our left, because it's the only side that sends the ball in the correct direction. Macca at least tries to get himself forwards, off the ball, which helps a bit, but he times it kind of wrong and arrives from deep, rather than creates space for others. Coyle does the same too, usually off the ball, but better than Macca does it. The passing from all of them has been poor though and they either play the safe ball, or give it away with an amateur pass. Jones has been the very worst offender though for me. He's proven he's a very good defender but that's where it ends. We're trying to employ a system where everyone plays ball like a footballer, and some of them are struggling a lot with that right now. Hopefully they come good with more time and confidence, but TW's job right now is to try and change something that's become very instinctive.
Whilst I agree that moving backwards from 7th last season would be a disappointment- it can also be the case that we can give the new manager and players the time and ultimately hope end up taking us into a better position - even if it’s not this season. Rosenior would have been expected to get a top 6 place this season - and would rightfully have been tipped for the sack if he failed. But there’s also no point in holding up the new team to those standards immediately otherwise I can only see us lurching from short term plan to short term plan. We are where we are and Acun has already taken the blame from some for swapping the manager. However frustrating - long term it’ll do us no favours to continue our prior expectations - we’ve got to treat this season as a fresh start and hope that this is the baseline and the progress comes from here. I appreciate that’s a frustrating pill for some (including me) to swallow.
Of course not. The manager was literally begging for new players at one point this pre season ffs. Not you Ric but people are acting like all that didn’t happen because players are in now.
Cant understand the booing at the end...its a new manager....new system....new players...new season ..ffs....some people cant get over "our liam" being rightly ****ed off
It’ll be hard for it to be better with a squad that is not even half as good as the previous one. Greaves, Philogene, Delap and Carvalho have not been replaced.
I'm not surprised he was begging, the backbone and flair of the team was pulled out from underneath him and it's been replaced with what? I'm no expert but I'm struggling to see what's going on here.We need a couple of serious marquee signings to put this right because on showings so far we're struggling to cope with bottom of the table fodder,I dread to think what will happen when we come up against the big guns if we fail to strengthen significantly. We're effectively a damp squib at present...
I like his honesty and how he doesn't try to make every interview a patronising lecture on the process and the style etc
