    exactly my opinion on it.

would rather we took a hit in initial fee to protect our interests if he lights it up down there, while giving us a week to reinvest rather than taking a flat fee in the 11th hour of deadline day.

Tbh I'd feel a whole lot worse if Dan Neil was leaving.

We bought Hume for nine shillings and sixpence who's now worth around £5m ...

    ... that's almost 100% profit.

No one seems to be saying we had Linfield's pants down.

Yes, but to answer the question I asked ...

... why did no other clubs offer £16m if he's such a bargain at £15m.

Exactly this. Fees are reported in the press but can be wide of the mark. The problem is that some fans, especially some of those posting on RTG, have a preference for looking on the negative side. I expect us to bring in 4 players by the close of the window - hopefully Isidore and Simic, and then a winger and an RB. We don't know how those players will perform but it will be likely that this window will have been pretty positive despite losing Clarke.

If we sell Clarke for £30m no one will argue as the lad deserves to be in the premier league.

selling for £15m so we can quickly fund a striker is poor business.

    if it’s £30m it’s good business. If it’s £15m up front it’s bad business.

You can only get want clubs are willing to pay and if there wasn't a bidding war for Clarke then 20m seems about right.

I'm not being difficult mate, I can see you're upset which is fine.

I'm just saying clubs weren't fighting to sign Clarke.

He failed last time in the PL, that's not a good pedigree to attract more bids.

What if the striker scores 35 goals and we go up? We’re getting to the territory of arguing about hypotheticals again, we just need to see what we do with the money we’ve got a good squad here, we haven’t even seen poveda kick a ball yet, never seen mundle have a run of games and we still have a week to do business things move very quick late in the window, let’s see where we are at pre Pompey

The point I was trying to make was, no one knows what we sold him for, so dont get chewed up about it, if Dreyfuss is a tight bastard he is hardly likely to sell him cheap is he?

Club is run night and day compared to anything before and all in a good way imo. Has been since the day KLD came in, yes a few bumps but to say it's run bad is looking for the negatives and ignoring the positives. Would Rigg or Jobe sign contract extensions whilst being courted by clubs higher un the pyramid under any of the previous owners (Donald would have sold them both for a couple weeks wages long before it got to that point to be fair!).

The club was a joke for a decade or more due to how badly it was run! Now the opposite is said.

Even the Clarke fee although it initially seemed low and I said so immediately with a sell on fee and most the £15m up front there is some sense in it!

So, if the sell on clause is decent and we end up with something approaching £25M what is that? Medium business. You shouldn't get caught up with media reported figures. To my mind we just need to look at the quality of the squad and whether its good enough to challenge. Some people were saying we'd lose Clarke, Neil, Patto, Ballard, Hume etc. and it looks like its only Clarke with some excellent looking signings coming in. This window looks like shaping up to be a very positive one.

Look I respect you as a poster but I have no idea but we don’t need to sell that’s the point.

howver given the fees go players with less ability than Clarke £15m is ridiculously low.

it reaks of desperation by the owners to fund a striker because they won’t invest.

I’ll take the advice of the supposed nicer forum snd fyck off.

it’s shocking business anyway you want to dress it up if it is reported £15m.

Wanted to stay away from this side of things but anyway

Clarke had accepted an offer from us to my knowledge and was happy but was desperate for PL football and it was better for his party to wait until after the TW to sign it incase someone came in like Ipswich have.

he wants to go play PL football

I only asked you a question mate, who's told you to leave the forum?

How did you decide his value, again that's just a question mate.
