I agree these mistakes are going to happen, even with Baz we were making them and he is very good with his feet for a keeper. The “pass it to the midfielder just outside the area with someone right up his arse” tactic is usually how the opposition steal the ball when any team plays out from the back. As you say it’s how often we make those mistakes and whether we want another Bazunu type who isn’t the best shot stopper but better with his feet or the more traditional keeper who won’t be as good (but hopefully better than McCarthy) with his feet. We lost the ball lots of times last year as well when teams pressed us later on in games, but we weren’t punished any where near as often as we will be in the Prem
I’m sure Macca will continue to make errors with the ball at his feet, but by the end of the season we will probably have dropped more points as a result of players not scoring when they should than we will drop because of a misplaced Macca pass. It’s a team game and although we all know his weaknesses he does bring other things to the team that, imo, helps calm the defence. If we can find a keeper who can do that and play the ball better with his feet, then let’s get him, but until we do he’s the best we have.
How many forwards do Ipswich want?! I like Broja, but I wouldn't want to be spending £30m on him. Way too high.
https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...ton-linked-with-free-agent-goalkeeper-4748695 A new one on me. And not necessarily one for the first team.
Broja was good for us, but since his injury he really has struggled to get going again. Sadly we know all too well what a serious knee injury can do to a player.
I would rather we were capable of spending £30million on a striker than that we weren’t. Seems a good move for Ipswich to me - and the fans are not supporting Bank Balance FC.
It’s kicking the can down the road a bit, and if they do survive how much of next years budget that will eat up remains to be seen. But I’d rather have a striker in than not, regardless of price, and as we’ve seen strikers are mega expensive. Ipswich also seem to have realised that it’s goals that keep you up so are signing lots of attacking options
Tell it to Luton. Scored plenty and were in mid table for goals scored... but letting in 85 sunk them.
Yeah you need a balance for sure but if you score 50 goals or less you aren’t staying up as a newly promoted side. You are always going to concede, just hopefully not 2+ a game on average
I dunno. If they stay up, then there’s a good chance he will have had something to do with it. If they don’t, they don’t buy him.
Problem tho is; if you were the opposition manager, what’s your game plan? That’s what scares the **** out of me.
It would be nice to get something out of this arrangement - especially if we are signing players, loaning them out to them and they don’t play! They might as well not bother if they aren’t going to get game time - they’d learn more training with our squad than warming their bench
The post linking Goztepe to Patricio says they are also after Lis. I assume the delay in negotiations is with Lis himself then as you'd think both clubs would negotiate fairly smoothly!
