I'm at the stage where i'd be happy with no more ins and outs as long as we get a quality keeper, it's that important.
It’s a real problem. Put someone like Vardy in our team against Newcastle and we win the game. I reckon he scores the chances that we missed.
We looked good in midfield and defence (although they were barely tested) on Saturday. Keeper and attack looked awful though. Only one game and we aren’t going to be that dominant in probably any other game so I’m hoping our attack looks better when we have more space on the counter. I think most fans would want about 5 more players if given the choice but a keeper has to be priority
It has been said before on here, Ramsdale is a good shot blocker probably better than Mcarthy but I can guarantee that he hasn't had to work as hard as Mcarthy with our defence! However what they both have in common is they both struggle to play out with their feet from the back, hence being replaced by a goalie good with his feet in Reyes.
Tbh, I think the GK thing is also just a confidence thing now. I want someone the crowd and players have faith in. It will make a difference. (And there are very, very few GKs as bad as McCarthy with his feet.)
I heard he was pretty quick. Nobody can Keep up with the Kumars. I'm better than McCarthy with my feet... and that is saying something!
If there was any chance at all of us bringing JWP back on loan, I would be all for it. But I can't see it. Presumably West Ham would only be interested in a sale (which we surely couldn't afford) or a loan with an obligation to buy next summer (which presumably neither us nor JWP would be willing to commit to without knowing which division we'd be in next season). I've been hoping for a decent keeper and Clarke for a while now, to round off our transfer window. If JWP could somehow be added in to that too - even at the cost of selling Charly - I would be delighted.
You can add conditions to obligations though, like with THB (only if we secured promotion). So we could appease JWP fairly easily I would have thought by inserting the obligation only if we stay up clause but whether West Ham would accept that is another matter.
And relegated both those times Im fully aware that Ramsdale is an upgrade on McCarthy but I don’t see him as some mega upgrade that will mean the difference between survival and relegation just because he too can’t use his feet and if we haven’t adjusted by now we aren’t going to in terms of style of play, although Martin did say we shouldn’t have gone back to McCarthy in the passage of play that led to his mistake. I disagree from memory, but Macca should’ve just put his foot through it first time when it was passed back to him rather than trying to find a pass inside out box. But maybe Martin was saying we have changed play and aren’t going back to the keeper as often as we would if Bazunu was there. Anyway I’m sure we will sign a keeper, I’m also 99% it was never going to be Ramsdale, the question is who it will be
For me - unless we go and sign Ederson - we are going to have to accept these types of mistakes all season. The difference between McCarthy and a new keeper is how many times we have to suffer these mistakes - not completely eliminate them.
