Well it appears we have locked up too many rioters and the prison system is now at breaking point. <laugh>

Yep, and it's all the Tories fault if Labour have to release murderers, rapists and peados early to make room for the protesters.

I think we need to be building detention centres to ease the burden on prisons - my idea of that is that there are some people who should be in prison, but others that can safely mingle together to serve their time in detention centres which are more like army barracks style accommodation, for example those climbing gantries on motorways, what the fook are we doing sticking them in cells. Those that don't play by the rules in detention centres then can be moved to a prison environment if required. I'm thinking more like an open prison environment, it's got to be cheaper than buidling new prisons for people that shouldn't be in there at such great expense. Not that I know the answers but someone needs to be rethinking how we are going to hold all these people we are locking up. Maybe home arrest on tags is another asnwer. Btw I'm not blaming Labour for this, I'm just thinking show us all this initiative they were banging on about before they came to power. All I keep hearing about is how tough they are going to be, great, get building then, because you are running out of space fast with this tough stance.

Or.......We build massive recycling plants in the prisons. Prisoners have to sift through all the **** free of charge to earn their keep and every ****er can stop worrying what coloured ****ing bin goes out on what week.

Prisoners have to work, deters most from wanting to go back. Win win

Yeah they get a ‘wage’ of approximately **** all per hour to pay for snacks/***s etc. but not for very short sentences unless that’s changed.

Which they haven't done. And they're not protestors they're rioters.

However, you're right about one thing; it's not Labour's fault the prisons are alreadsy full to bursting, and the service, like all public services, has been underfunded for over a decade.

While I agree prisoners should work, not sure about the recycling bit, I think people just need to stop being lazy shhites and recycle their stuff properly.

I look in ocassionally to see what's been said on GC - I see these constant titles where it's claimed (via twitter links) that people have been jailed for saying words to cops or other similar scenarios. So I did a random check on one the other day, and as I suspected it was total bullshite and being fed to people who are too lazy to check what really happened. It was quite clear in the sentencing that the person was sent down for what they did and NOT for what they said, albeit it a commentary feel of the language is naturally going to be put forward as evidence, but it still remained, the person was convicted of violence as well as encourraging violence, and that's why they went down. Thing is it only takes a few minutes to check the validity of these claims, yet people are quite happy to spend hours posting lies without any checks whatsoever to what really occurred. I dare say some of the policing was heavy handed, but tough shhite, you go looking for trouble I want the cops to hit back.

I read up on this some a while back, in brief, and from what I understood, it was people who were not likely to be a danger to anyone, so I'd say it ruled out people in those categories, I got the impression (could be wrong) it was more your shop lifter type of criminal, although having said that, I've seen reports where shop owners are not happy with that, because often shop lifters reoffend. I'm sure there are plenty of people in prison though who don't really need to be there.

Just had a quick google and see articles from when the Tories were in power, and the prisoners being released are prisoners who were going to be released anyway, but just under a different time frame, instead of serving 50% of their sentence that will be reduced to 40%. There are exempt categories to this rule, but couldn't be arsed to read any further.
