I can understand Gomez assessing his options. At the age where he should be first choice however he seems kind that wouldn't kick up a fuss. For us he’s great in that can provide cover across the back - that versatility is very useful.

However a bit like Origi - moving somewhere doesn’t guarantee you first choice. Talk of Villa but I don’t see him being first choice at villa. So where is his level? Top 10 club? Replacement for a guehi?

Worse case he goes somewhere and ends up in exact same position of back up.

If we sell we have to get replacements at CB - and hope to get something around 30-40m
    for Gomez

We can't afford to lose Gomez, simple as that. We lost Matip, okay he had a long term injury last season and didn't play a full season ever but he was cover when fit. Konaté too is injury prone so losing Gomez would leave us threadbare at the back. We've got a massive amount of games and need to keep hold of the players we've got especially as we have no inkling of any transfers coming in.

In the end gomez is not only cover for one spot..he is cover for 4 so again they are.looming at him as a player they've no use for like as if they've 38ngames to play.

I really don't get the thinking as the cl expansion, no winter break etc is going to strain this squad big time

Or it could be Gomez is fed up of just being cover for multiple positions irrespective of the squad requirements for this season. He was a sub in the England squad. He maybe feels to make his England claims better he needs far more first team exposure?

But if he wants to go you can’t keep him. I think he’s deserved the right to decide if he wants to go somewhere for first team football - on assumption we get a decent value.

We have to go replace though

I would defo prefer that we replaced before we let go

always feel you get a better deal that way
Although with this all being out in the open this far I don’t suppose it will overly make much difference

trouble is it will be really difficult to find someone who can do a decent job all along the back line .

In the end I'd be almost more concerned about his ability to cover Lb than cb.

I would also notblike to strengthen a top 4 rival

But it will also leave us short of club trained players for the cl squad.

    Kelleher supposed to go?

If so then trent, jones, morton, Philips, jaros (Elliott still u21 b lister) are it.

This is not good as its entirely self.inflicted after years of work to build upm

    TAA & Bradley
Vvd & Konate & Quansah (Phillips?!?!)
    Robbo & Tsimikas

I Guess numbers wise CB cover is the one that’s short as we do have back up for each full back role. Having someone flexible is useful but not sure we need someone that can play in every position.

Start pearing away at the above.

    An injury prone konate.

A left full whos been injured 3 or 4 times in the past year and short of fitness Plus is wrong side of 30 amd his back up is the most badly avershe player going with little positional sense

In an ideal world the back 4 are very good but last season we were down to vvd with two kids breaking through and gomez at lb

This year an injury list could.mean what?

    Bradley Quansah Phillips tsimikas

That wouldn't win a village fete tbh

I would certainly be agree that a left side cb who could play lb might be nice.

Van den Berg isn't quick enough

I don't begrudge Gomez wanting to move on; he served his time with us and if he wants first team football, good luck to him.

But yes, we definitely need to sign cover before letting Joe go

Even more of an issue. However when needs must and the window is closed slot will just have to use him

We've two rbs until one leaves on a free it seems.
We've a lb in decline and a bang average cover.
We've no cover at all for vvd unless you count the woeful Phillips who can't pass it and is dead low or van den berg who is as bad really.

Going in with 3 cbs is folly. Klopp did the same and lost all 3 to injury.

Slot has already said he prefers players to have set positions. For example, he sees Gakpo competing with Diaz at LW leaving Jota and Nunez in battle centrally

But gakpo played centre forward when he came on, so I'd take it with a pinch of salt

Yeah so what's he going to do if he's down to 1 cb then after selling gomez?

All I'm saying is we were promised a crescendo. Let's see it.
