Did Gazza die this morning? Because I felt like he was reborn today. 9/10's across the board, almost. Our quick smart, terrier like press was masterful, we look after 10 mins like we'd struggle a bit, but we adjusted straight away. As has been said, we launched it plenty and won the 2nd Balls, they thought they could bully us but we had strength in numbers. They weren't even that bad, they tried to play but we bossed them. That's like a top 3 performance since promotion to the championship.
Well that was ****ing brilliant. I was a bit anxious first five, they pressed hard and we gifted possession away, they were powderpuff but mustered two efforts on target early doors. The irony being they only managed one more in the game. Our set piece work has clearly been meticulous. That dragged reverse ball again and Cirkin in acres peeling off the back. Header down, back across goal and you've always got a chance. That goal seemed to push the SW press back and we got on the ball and found some swagger. It also helped us doubly commit to our press which brought about the second. The man up Windass' ass forces the error and the finish from Mayenda is one of an accomplished forward, no panic, just picking his spot. He could have taken the easy option left or right but had the stones to take it on himself. The third is poor defending, they leave Rigg in acres of space on the edge of the box then our pal Windass doesn't get out and O'nien does what good centre forwards do and gambles. The fourth is the best of the lot for me, class touch and ball from Rigg then Clarke has the awareness to feed Mayenda, its a tap in. We didn't do enough tap ins last season, but they're bread and butter and we need lots more of them. Whoever is CF will score those. It could have been more, but our game management at 3 and 4-0 really impressed me. Buzzing for Mayenda, some had him written off last week and hes responded with a brace.
Brilliant all round team performance, game management in especially the second half was outstanding,I would give the MOTM to jobe for his complete performance especially his work between the lines and he left everything on the pitch, would like to see the data on his yards coverage
I'm absolutely buzzing after that. Thought their press that was so good in their first game that we might struggle playing out from the back but bar the first few minutes thet were the ones that couldn't cope. Everyone as said was a 9 out of 10 but stand out players for me was Cirkin who was unbelievable, particularly the first half, Jobe who was immense in and out of possession and stepped into Bownes role perfectly, Rigg who let's face it totally outdone Bannan which is an exceptional feat for a 17 year old and finally I thought Alese was a class act. Ultimately the attacking players won the plaudits after a 4 nil win but really believe it was built on brilliant defending
Just noticed our first home 3pm game of the season isn’t until 26th October so hard for me to get up to games at other times.
