That's a true story about Joe Hill Clocky, He was a Swedish immigrant in America. He became a Trades Union activist and was convicted of murder. and executed by firing squad. Some believe the evidence to be unsafe and that he was found guilty as a result of his activities. Joe Hill is a prominent figure in the Trades Union movement worldwide. Listen to Bob Dylan's "I dreamed I saw St Augustine" it's a direct lift from "Joe Hill" Another version
Played the Londonderry and several times at the Boilermakers . Word was out and the place was packed even queues down the street . Announced a recording contract at the club and then the big time. Best I've seen in a local bar. Look at the advert from the Echo . Fantastic Showgroup . Son of a Bitch. Then the Exotics under that !! Well done that man sneaking his tape recorder in.. son of a bitch sunderland - YouTube
Enjoyed that , I was introduced to delta Blues by a mate who asked me to make a 4/4 ' copy of this cover for his I have mentioned before that I listen to Desert Island Disks most weeks and this morning Steven knight was on , among Dylan and Ella Fitz and Bob Marley was this song to take to the Island ,so reminiscent ( but slightly leftfield ) of MJH track you played, sang by another of my musical heros from way back . https://www.google.com/search?clien...ate=ive&vld=cid:e98d56bd,vid:oddk-PvP0p8,st:0 PS I'm off now as am busy to-day but have really enjoyed the company on here over the last 24hrs .
I used to go to the rock nights there on a Friday night back in the early 1980s. Got a taste for snakebite there.
i was there when they announced their new name, Tommy the lad that booked the bands had alerted agents apparently, and their thank you gig at the Boilermakers was ****ing class 2 lead guitars were brilliant, they did a cover of climb every mountain from the sound of music unbelievably back then which was tremendous, the Boilermakers pre match was the place to be.. the Big Picture a local band fantastic times
Well thank you kind sir. I had that on in the car the other day funny enough. I prefer the slower version they did of it, I'll see if I can find it and put it up. Loved Hawkwinds version of it as well.
Motörhead recorded a few cover versions in their time... God Save the Queen, Sex Pistols Sympathy for the Devil, the stones And this one, David Bowies Heroes.... When Motörhead cover your music, it isn't your music anymore....
Alanis Morrisette was on sky arts a few weeks ago, a live concert. Thoroughly enjoyed it, thought she was excellent. Love that Alanah Myles song....do you who it's about?
I had one of the best nights in ages last night. My lads band organised a charity gig for Mind. They had 2 other local bands play a set, and his band played last set. The music was immaculate. 1 solo singer songwriter (Charlie King), one band (The Roster), and my lads band (Alchemy). What blew me away was how supportive they all are of each other. Young musicians playing for a charity on a Saturday night. They all worked together during sound checks etc. Other local bands on the guestlist came along to support and all paid to get in, didnt want it free. All music was original, barring 2 covers. My lads band did Yellow on request by the venue and literally had 200 on their feet singing along, me included. There were 2 unreal guitar solos, one by the lead guitarist from The Roster, and one from my lad. Best bit, both on their feet applauding each other after. Honestly, some young lads who are so committed to their music. In a country where I fear for the future of arts I have been really encouraged. So proud also of my own lad who along with his band put loads of effort into the event and raised over a grand. If these kids are a sample of what we are producing there is real hope for us as a country. In a time of abject news this was a real highlight for me. Oh aye, and I was the doorman. Had a clicker and everything. Last time I listen to Smug and his stories of being a team and the danger of rock gigs. I did it on my own . The venue, our local church, has never seen Doris and Joan so effectively dealt with, and as for Ken, who wasnt happy that the lemon drizzle had gone, lets just say he will happily try chocolate next time without a threat of a chinese burn
Absolutely brilliant that mate, bet you're proud as owt. That post has just rounded off a rather splendid day.
Superb that mind. Doris and Joan get front row seats for the Vegas gigs tho. Lemon drizzle is the dogs bizzle btw.
