Make no mistake, we have very very little chance of staying up the way we play. Would take nothing short of a miracle.

Please fellow not606'ers let's not do the "but we played well" routine this year.

Not an awful start, good performance in a tough fixture.

However not scoring when against 10 men for 60 minutes isn't great.

The club need to get their head out of their arse re the goalkeeper situation though, McCarthy is not the man for tippy tappy at the back, either find someone who can do it or exempt the keeper from it.

Nottingham Forest at home will be the more telling fixture for us.

Tbf this was going to be a tough first game and the sending off just made them harder to break down.

Forest at home next week was always going to be the bigger game for us and we can go into it with confidence.

Considering how negative everyone was, I’m going to consider this promising. We weren’t rolled over and could have scored on another day. Once they scored and were a man down they lost all incentive to take risks. Not going to despair on the first day…though plenty will.

Well, I can see some positives. I like the way we kept the ball and kept going. I think maybe we can compete, but the club simply need to be pragmatic and sort the keeper situation. Without wanting to do a Nathan Jones, conceding against 10 was **** for us as it was obvious what the toon would do. They are a tough nut enough as it is defensively.

Haven’t seen any of the game and I appreciate all your comments but surely only losing 1-0 at St James Park has exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations?

You know, I'm okay with that. If we play with that intent and reinforce with a keeper and another attacker (be that CAM or ST) we have a chance. SAA looked bright when he came on, and Charly should have been on earlier - he's so positive and plays on the turn, which is what we actually needed there.

Thought both BBD and Suga were excellent - I don't understand the Suga substitution at all unless he was carrying a knock. We nullified KWPs abilities in the second half, and Edozie as always flattered to deceive.

Newcastle's experience and nous showed through in the end, and credit to them. Joelinton and Guimares were immense, as was Dan Burn at the back. Fair play. It's that level of know-how we're going to need to pick up pretty quickly. Plus we need to move the ball quicker, but it was ever thus.

Not disheartened at all. We looked better than I feared we would.

Not in context of the game. We really should not be going home empty handed. Issues at both ends cost us

I think we need to give it a go for a while to be fair. Might change my tune after a month or two!

I'd much rather play this way then whatever dross was served up by Selles/Jones. I'd rather not sit back and defend every game as well.

Hopefully you are more successful vs the other clubs.

    Good luck for the season.

The GK has cost us 1+ points already, if there is to be any more incomings a quality Keeper HAS to be one of them.

I do still maintain that our season starts next week. Any points from today would have been a bonus.

But it doesn't mean I'm not frustrated.

Don't pretend Bruno doesn't do the same thing. The fault was 100% with Schar.

But good game and good luck this season too :emoticon-0167-beer:

I'm just so tired of it. Points and points alone matter. We were playing 10 man Newcastle and lost, not prime Barcelona. There's nothing to be even remotely pleased about with today's game, yet until we're pointless at the end of September people will pretend it's fine.
