How do we get them strikers though? Until we sell someone we just won't be in the market for strikers that are serious difference makers, that's just the reality of the championship.

Guess then you have to ask would you rather have Clarke and find the striker market difficult or sell Clarke and find it much easier but obviously not have your best player?

Re, Poveda at Blackpool. Looking back, and trying to remember, I think he was there during a period of turmoil and protests from the fans. Critchley had walked out and Michael Appleton came back who was then sacked and MicMac came it who didn't last long either.

Anyway, this is what Mick had to say,

Blackpool manager Mick McCarthy has praised Leeds United loanee Ian Poveda as "different class" following a change in approach during training with the Championship side.

Poveda left Elland Road at the beginning of the season in a bid to get some valuable first-team football under his belt. He has endured a hap-hazard spell so far at Blackpool and has only started six of their 18 Championship matches this term. He scored his first Blackpool goal in last month's FA Cup third round win over Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old initially struggled to make an impact following his arrival from Leeds on a season-long loan back in the summer. However, Poveda has improved remarkably since the World Cup break and McCarthy has praised the youngster for what he sees as a clear change in approach.

"I think he wasn’t that consistent and I don’t think he’d been that good and it can be difficult with loan players," the Blackpool boss said.

“They come in and if they’re not playing, they think ‘why should I be here?’ and it affects the performance. I think when they went to Spain, he’s really knuckled down and what I’ve seen of him in training is different class He really is a good footballer. He’s got a lot to offer us.

Sooner or later big boy pants are needed and a decision has to be made though. Other teams sold better players than we’re holding on to and ended up better in the end. Jack Clarke is a very very good winger at this level but he’s still a championship player at the end of the day he’s not irreplaceable. Philogene cost Hull £5m, he’s as good as Clarke. Latte Lath was £5m. There’s £10m reinvested that would make us a much better team than holding onto Clarke and still having plenty change.

That's way too much for a 30 year old from that league and they know it.

This is where I land on the situation as well.

Obviously the offer has to be right and we can't accept an offer that isn't there but if an acceptable offer comes i'd take it.

A sale would justify paying a little more

Were rightfully holding stubborn because it would be coming out of the clubs pocket to fund more money in the transfer. Make a profit use 20% of it or whatever we end up getting to pay that bit more and get it over the line

So it's all down to money then. Nowt to do with Caen wanting to keep hold of him etc. They just want more money. Am sure there is a middle ground to be found.

That's a big difference in valuations. As others have said, this is looking like a deadline day signing. Just waiting for someone to blink.

No way Mendy can go back and play for them now. The clubs need to have a grown up conversation and maybe Mendy could grease the wheels with a transfer request

Only issue I see with deadline deal is the work permit. Hopefully it doesn't take 2 weeks like RLB and I think a few others. Although there's an international break which would cover most of it.

Good news on the Jobe deal. Best player on the pitch on Saturday.

Will be the clubs biggest ever sale at some point in the not so distant future.

If we were to spend £4m for arguments sake would it really even affect us? It’s certainly not going to push anywhere near the PSR threshold I wouldn’t have thought. This position is the only one we really need to nail down so spending a few quid that we aren’t going to get a return on shouldn’t matter when we’re building a valuable squad over most of the pitch. Our squad would be sorted and we essentially wouldn’t need to buy anyone so from here on out it would just be a case of who’s the first to be sold to boost the coffers back up?

Fantastic news this. Big statement from the club and from Bellingham himself. He could have got a prem move this season but he has his head screwed on. His family are so clued up. Delighted as he will just get better and better.
