Boro confirm the signing of Conway

They’ve got some cracking forward options for this level now. I’d love them to lose Latte Lath late in the window but I can’t see it.

Rubbish, why havnt Luton with their parachute money bought anyone?

Did you think Browne was actually free? Do you think Rigg and Ballard signing new deals cost nothing?

The ages don't alter the stats and the general comparison.

Clarke had four loans before signing for us, none with any real impact, he only scored twice in that time.

He's had an achilles injury, before he came here and an ankle injury at Sunderland that kept him out for about two months.

Unless I'm mistaken it was him who was taken off the subs bench on a stretcher <laugh>

Besides my point is that Poveda isn't injury prone, not how good he may or may not be.

You know yourself that players can easily find themselves behind a player who can't be dropped, imagine if Clarke was dropped for Mundle. And some players develop quicker than others, some of our better players have shown that. His most recent club's supporters would've had him back this season ...

... to me that's more relevant than what happened when he was eighteen.

I just don't get why people are so keen to portray him as perennially on crutches or with an injury that keeps coming back.

Think he just had the short term one at QPR and then one at Stoke mind but I agree, I said that from day dot he was poor before he came here and sometimes players just need that run of games to show what they’re about.

But I do think at 24 year old you should have some experience behind you, even more so needed in our case because Poveda will be one of the older heads in the squad and he’s played a lot less football than some of our youngest players and that has to be for a reason. Injury was the reason at Blackburn, no idea why he couldn’t get a start for Blackpool they were dreadful and then he got injured again at Sheff Wed last season. I don’t think Leeds even had him in their squad when he was back there for 6 months at the start of last season.

Again though, i’ve heard some very positive things about the lad after being sceptical initially on how good he actually was so who knows.

Donald bought Grigg singlehandedly against the advice of his manager, no one bought Burstow, Hemir's a kid who hasn't had enough of a run to judge yet imo ... not every signing is going to work but I do take your point.

SM Caen start their Ligue 2 season tomorrow with a home fixture against Paris FC and will be doing so without their top scorer from last season, Alexandre Mendy, with the player still unavailable due to his desire to join Sunderland.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference to Ouest-France, Caen manager Nicolas Seube confirmed the absence of Mendy and explained that it’s a difficult situation that they hope to solve before the end of the transfer window.

Seube also explained that the player is undergoing individual training to make sure he is fit enough while a solution is found:

Alexandre Mendy will not be here. He is in individual training with the athletic trainers. The situation is delicate and difficult to sort out. Of course, as coach, I’d like him to be able to join the squad so that we have an extra attacking weapon. I hope that between now and the end of the summer transfer window, we’ll find the best formula.

I’ve given my opinion on this subject and it’s not up to me. I’ll keep the discussions we’ve had together to myself. It’s an unpleasant situation for everyone, the player, the club, the new shareholders and me as coach. For the moment, everyone is losing out in this story. The idea is for us to find a win-win situation.

    Eeee never really?

My point is, we say the same things about it being a slow and difficult market every year. If we are finding that and other clubs aren’t, perhaps it’s a capability issue for those dealing with legal negotiations.

I'll be honest, if he was coming in to replace Clarke or Roberts I'd be more concerned.

I see him being cover for either, he can cover both sides, or behind a striker.

He's not a critical signing, as you've said, but he must have ability judging by who he's played for ...

... it's up to RLB to bring that out, perhaps he will but I don't think he should be looked at as a lame duck.

It is difficult because we aren't selling players, it's easy for Boro for example because they have sold.

Which is a totally reasonable explanation. Not asking for or expecting us to be littered with new signings. A couple of strikers would see us flying but can see playoffs as a possibility without them.
Is saying every year it’s a slow or difficult market is a bit pointless, when we say that every year. To me, difficult transfer dealings are the norm these days and our club needs to be able to operate within that market.
