We wouldn’t be brought together by a war. The day war is declared we’d all be fighting over toilet roll in Asda again.
Yeah the Ukranians had worked this out or received outside guidance (Americans/British) that invasion was the best form of defence for other areas that Russia were advancing through. I think I heard suggestions it wouldn't take long for the Russians to repel the Ukranains, days rather than weeks (once they get the men there), but it's enough to put them months behind in other regions, then I assume we fall into the start of winter where some terrain becomes impossible. All very clever military tactics.
More seriously it'll be interesting to see at what point Ukraine pull out. As presumably once it gets too heavy they'll want to avoid huge casualty numbers.
It's a pretty impressive tactical move - Putun can't not counter it - but in doing so he has to move troops from the other front(s) - what's the betting that Ukraine haven't already prepared counter-offensives in the most likely areas? ... Making Putin look even more of a cock ...
well in the East doubt it as the Russians have full defensive positions which they don't have in Kursk as it seems to have never occurred to them that Ukraine might "escalate" the war by invading Russian territory
You say that ... but you're not there ... my mate Oleg Skratchanic is ... and he reckons I've got it spot on ...
I'm not sure about 'cosy'. Part of the anger expressed (badly) through the riots is the pent-up frustration of people who have seen their living standards decline consistently since 2007. Rabble-rousers are latching onto this frustration and convincing people that the NHS and economy is falling apart because of a few dozen Eritreans in a Holiday Inn.
Oh, and for the sake of bringing a bit of balance to my otherwise generally quite pro-Israel stance: All settlers involved in this disgraceful and destructive mob-violence in the West Bank should be stripped of their citizenship and deported. Netanyahu will never do it, of course, but that's what should happen.
Sorry disagree, this country has had it way too cosy in comparison to people's lives torn apart by war. Yes we have poor people...oh and food banks, but even that we merely constructed another problem of our own making, problem is we really don't appreciate how cosy we have had it in the UK, due to our greed and continued material want. The biggest decision a majority of our population has had to make is how much bog roll to buy ffs. Yeah of course we have our own fair share of poor people, but those in the riots all had smart phones to record their crimes as evidence for the cops lol.
The growing discontent with and rejection of Netanyahu and his fanciful and ultimately unaheivable 'total victory' pursuit in Gaza (and the West Bank) by rank and file Israelis provides some hope that a peace deal can now be acheived in the region and that, hopefully, the remaining hostages can be freed ...
The six freshly murdered hostages could be a stumbling block. Raze the place to the ****ing ground and give the middle-class Western ponces in their Palestine fancy dress something to really cry about.
As long as Israel keeps popping off Hamas leaders one by one, they will continue their operations. I think some of the Hamas casualties have taken many by surprise, they're names which appeared 2 months ago to be untouchable. We are talking about people who were in Moscow 4 months ago chatting to Putin, now blown to pieces in Iran.
Dread to think what the future holds once we are long gone. All those very young kids, litterally babies in many cases going to grow up to hate, children left with constant reminders, minus an arm a leg, injuries that will require a lifetime of treatment. I always said it was never about the hostages, it's always been about revenge to ensure Oct 7th never happens again. Think what both sides have done to humanity leaves so many questions that will never get answers. Christianity teaches about heaven and hell, but you can't go to hell if you are already there and to think not one single person involved in any of this will ever face a war crime, age is on their side to ensure they don't for the main culprits. The human race is certainly in the gutter over this episode in history. The people that rule this planet and some of our wealthiest, are just using humans like pieces of garbage, easily disposable, whether it be Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan or wherever they wish to carry out their next atrocity. There was something I saw Corbyn say the other day, we can't afford the pensions but we can afford the weapons (not those exact words) - that sums us up in a nut shell. Disgusting!
I think in 20 years we will look back at this without an emotional eye and the pertinent question will be "who the **** amongst Hamas' leadership thought this was a good idea?"
