He ain’t worth £65m mate, even £60m is a ****ing stretch. I genuinely hope we walk away, if we’ve got £60m to burn I’d rather we brought 2 players in for that. It’s double the wages of course but Guehi ain’t gonna be on less than £120k I wouldn’t have thought so probably not too difficult to stretch thar over two signings.
Agree it’s a dangerous amount of money because what it will show is we are bending over. Future transfers may be affected as clubs will just ramp up the anti. We went in with a decent offer and have increased it twice from 50m to 60m. We should definitely walk away to show we won’t be taken advantage of.
We could get Chalobah and Gnonto for not much more than £60m I reckon, I’d take that over £65m for Guehi in a heartbeat. I’d keep Miggy as well, we need good options in all positions and for the sake of selling him for £15m or whatever id rather he stayed.
Agree with this mate. Its far to much money. They are taking advantage. I guess it’s a sellers market. But we should be strong. Walk away and focus on other targets. There are many overseas defenders that would improve our squad that would cost less than half.
What I don't get is the requirement for a bidding process at all if there is only one team in it. If bids are required, then what is the point of negotiations? All it can mean, in my somewhat limited brain, is that one or both of the parties are not negotiating in good faith. You shouldn't have to "bid" if it's just 2 parties round the table. Come to a figure and either agree or walk away...
Just read on the beeb that Chelsea want £60m for Madueke. If that's true then the market has gone truly mad. It actually makes the Guehi price look more reasonable! Of course what it really does is show that the value is not in PL players and we need players from Europe instead
That I also agree with. It seems like we are doing the old kick the tyre though. I think we approached them and they said (say) 70m. We came back with 50 thinking they would drop. But they stuck to their guns. Fair play to them. Walk away. He’s good but he’s not Maldini.
This is why we shouldn’t be buying from English clubs. We can get much better value abroad. Plus sod Chelsea. Let them rot in FFP hell.
According to the Daily Fail we’ve now made a bid of over £60m but less than the minimum £65m Palace want. It’s being considered
****s sake, seems we really want this guy. This is a very dangerous precedent we're setting here, to be fair Palace have a price in their heads that they won't sell for less for so they're only doing exactly what we would be doing if someone came in and offered £75m for Isak or Bruno. I don't think anyone on here thinks Guehi is worth £65m but Palace do and unfortunately that's the only thing that counts.
Im astonished in the entire world with our resources the only defender we feel is an improvement plays for Palace. Not only that but we also appear to be the only club in the world who have this belief. I also cannot fathom this “negotiation”, as has been said doesn’t this happen in private then a signing is made? Finally Howes comment of “well if people want to believe that whilst we work on other stuff” is just utter bollocks so why bother giving false hope? Dont like what Newcastle are doing at all right now. Unprofessional and amateurish behaviour.
or maybe all of this is coming from the Crystal Palace end. Once he is signed and we go after a RW, then transfers revert back to being in private. One thing I am really concerned with though is this insistence on having played in the PL for our signings. Everyone knows its an inflated market, go into Europe and get more bang for your buck.
Doesn’t matter. If they’re behaving like idiots why on earth would we keep going back with more money? We’re acting oddly and stupidly. Agreed on the second part that can only come from Howe.
Strange that it's only starting now though, after spending serious money on a series of exciting foreign imports, over numerous previous transfer windows, and all with Howe at the helm. When was his nephew appointed? Lol
If it's the right player then he's worth the money. Looks like Newcastle are signing a player for 60-65 million and tbh I never thought we'd see that. It's frustrating I get it, but if they sign him and a first 11 RW great.
