It will be interesting to see how our midfielders fit in when fit and available. I imagine Zambrano is coming in to start most games but Simons has arguably been the most impressive player all throughout pre-season and the first two competitive games. Physically, Simons has looked strong and athletic but he’s also adjusted to Walter’s style of football better than anyone else. He looks like he’s played at Hamburg for two years under Walter already. I suppose Zambrano could play as the sole #6 and Simons as one of the #8s instead of Slater, or Simons as the #6 and Zambrano as the #8. I don’t know if Zambrano can play as a box-to-box. I suppose it doesn’t make much difference during a game as they’re all quite fluid with the positions anyway.
I agree with this, only thing I’d say is I think he’s guilty of being too safe too often in possession. Hopefully that comes with more game and confidence, but I’m hoping the reason Zambrano is so highly regarded is he can do both sides pretty well
zambranos an interesting one you could easily see him taking a year or two to full get up to speed at this level but also could see him take it like a fish to water
Simons 8 for me, his pressing high would make us very good. We’d win the ball higher a lot more too, would be a Honeyman esque
I would’ve kept Fleming and sent Jacob out on loan. Fleming isn’t great but he’s far better as a second-choice left-back than Jacob.
For some reason the club has always loved Jacob and Fleming just doesn't fit here. Never knew why though? Maybe he doesn't show anything in training or has poor attitude around the club from him? Something isn't right though for it always to be him.
Decent move for him I guess. Unfortunately it looks like that's the end for him here ... but hope he smashes it and maybe it isn't. As Kalman says, would have been happy to see him stay and fight for a place ahead of Jacob, but seems like Rosenior and now Walter think differently.
That 3-year deal was in summer 22 when we committed to several long-term deals we'd later regret. Fleming had been playing really well and people saw it as smart to tie him down at the time, but in hindsight it wasn't pragmatic. A few months later he was totally out of the picture.
He is far better than Tyler smith in my humble opinion, Tyler runs like a headless chicken and for me doesn’t feel a confident footballer. But this lad I think will be a success here, give him some love and reap the rewards… remember this post !!!
You might be right. I have my reservations though. He's scored 3 goals in his full career so far which, is similar to Liam. But, Preston fans did like him. Sunderland fans haven't said anything good about Burstow which is worrying. Although Sunderland fans do downplay anybody.
I will always use my own eyes and determine from that, to be honest and this is not a dig but **** everyone else lol.
