And when we have a full squad, that is a golden opportunity for those on the fringes to get match fit. It is the one useful thing a cup run provides. Well, til we get to the quarters when I like to step on the bandwagon.
I did not see the game, opted to stay in and have a burger and chips, and finger blast the wife as the kids were at granny's. Anyway, that useless information aside, I will reserve my meltdown for 10 games in. Remembering the Doncaster fiasco....it happens.
I wouldn’t say they haven’t stepped up after 10 minutes at the end of a dreadful team performance in the league and a cup game. I thought Jarvis had a poor game but showed, as he also did on Saturday, that he has the skill to beat defenders and unlock defences at this level. It’s a big step up from any level either have played before so expecting instant success in their first 90 minutes is a little premature.
We played well. Much better control of the ball from the back, Giles was clearly happier in his natural position. Seems to be clicking. Tim has said as much in the interview, he thought the performance was good. We need 2 x strikers, that's a given, but the players are definitely getting it. Watching the movement off the ball when we have possession it was much more fluid last night. Players knowing their role.
Its always been said about him ... he is a sulker and then the next minute you think 'hello'... but its usually the sulker...
It was patchy at best. We bossed large chunks of the game but had little to show for that. Too many players (Burns, Jarvis, Omur, Slater, Sellars-Fleming) went missing for periods. It was like playing with 10 men at times. We lacked physicality in key areas so, although that was Wednesday's second string team, they didn't have much problem containing us. Yes, a couple of poor refereeing decisions cost us dearly but we also didn't help ourselves. We have to stop gifting teams goals. I hope the promising signs that people are seeing begin to bear fruit and I hope that the alledged quality signings we're making live up to the hype. The new manager has yet to win a game. We are making defensive mistakes and getting punished for them. We aren't scoring enough goals. These things may well be sorted out in time but if they're not, things may well start to get ugly.
"lacked physicality in key areas" "gifting goals" "defensive mistakes" "aren't scoring enough goals" All true. These latest 3 signings may help, but they really aren't going to make that big a difference. Nowhere near. We so desperately need quite a few more quality signings to add experience, physicality and goals. Or else as you say, "it may well start to get ugly"
Did Burns and Jarvis even touch the ball in the first half? Everything we did was on our left with Giles and Miller.
After Donny last season. Didn't go, so can't really comment...But reading comments it doesn't sound as if I missed much, though better than aforementioned performance...Thing is now that the 'Negative Police' are on my case all I can say that anything better than Doncaster last season has to be a positive ..Hopefully, God willing etc...etc....we turn up at Plymouth and put in a solid performance...Might just happen!!
I dont care about his personal life Im looking at the 4 times hes been a manager Hes done poorly everywhere
I said this last night thought a couple more might have come across from Germany. Having said that our goal should never have been disallowed for keeper dropping it, I actually enjoyed the game, squad depth is very much needed and for all those banging on about Jarvis he was awful and needs a league one loan
