Yeah RCB and RW were the prerequisites of the window. So far we've managed to sign 2 GK's when (we had 3 already), a LCB on a free who is a decent squad player, a young LB who we already knew was coming in and a third choice prospect up top for £10m. So far we've only spent money that wasn't budgeted for prior to the window on Odysseas and Osula but Odysseas was an exchange really so cost us nothing in effect. From what I can work out we are nearly breaking even on the transfers this summer (if you include Hall signing) so it's a worry we are in to the last 2 weeks of the window need exactly what we needed at the beginning of the window despite trading 7 first team players so far. Not sure Mitchell has had anything to do with any of the signings, bar Osula, yet and maybe even him coming in has slowed down the process but he's been here 6 weeeks now and nothing to show for it which is a problem.
They might have to just pay what they want to save face at this point. The Toon have done that thing the contestants on bargain hunt do when they're given the task of haggling... they go in way low and end up getting a pound off in the end.
I'm stretching it by saying Hall is a signing, he essentially got a contract extension as far as I'm concerned but, ok, he's a signing and I think a genuinely good one. Then we have a squad player who Howe just had to sign from Bournemouth, obviously his pick. 15 goalies, heard some suggest one is essentially a coach - lol OK, nice try there spin doctors. Pointless signing. I'm really not convinced by Osula at all, I think we could have found better in the Championship. Sammie Szmodics would have been cheaper and covers the entire front 3, he's been looking really good. I dunno, 60m for Guehi seems baffling.
At the start of the window we had 4 gks. If Pope gets injured again, we’re just as ****ed as we were last season if not more so, because Vlach by all accounts is dogshit and Ruddy?! Christ only knows why we’ve signed a player to be a coach. Wish Howe was more accountable, he’s incredibly evasive and nobody asks decent questions.
The Newcastle media are sucking farts out the clubs arse at the moment cos the fans are in a daze If the season is **** it will turn toxic
Nothing we’ve done since Gordon has made a lick of sense. We got screwed over on Tonali, then signed three subs. Jan was dead, we then left it to the very last day to clear PSR (which in itself was weird mismanagement). This Summer has been dire. Kelly the only notable addition but was he super important? Hes not going to start many games. I think the club needs to explain. Howe saying utter crap like “not many improve this team” is ****ing horseshit. We finished below and around teams who’ve been able to strengthen theirs. The only two teams who can genuinely make this statement finished first and second. We finished 7th, potless (as always) and out of Europe. Yes I get the injuries (Howe still shoulders a lot of the blame for me) but how the entire world of football can’t offer better than Almiron, Murphy, Longstaff, Schar, Burn, Pope is an insane thing to claim. In terms of genuine top 4 players we have maybe 4 at a push - Isak, Bruno, Gordon and Joelinton. So how can we not seek to improve the team? It’s just really weird. But then I said this last season when we ended the window adding Barnes then announced we were done.
We lost Karius so only had 3 one being Gillespie. Ruddy is Karius' replacement. Vlach is Dubz's replacement when he's sold as he doesn't want to be 2nd choice behind pope.
Unless there is a PSR deadline looming, we seem to be even more ineffective at selling players than we are at buying them.
Since he plays for the Slovak national team we could sell him for essentially buttons to a Slovak side and get him off the wage bill He's 35. Tbh, how much does it cost to buy out these contracts?
Saw him actually playing on Saturday - pulled off a few decent (not spectacular) saves, commanded his box, distribution was good and generally looked solid. Of course, I'm just basing it on seeing him with my own eyes, not "all accounts" in the media .....
Just seen that Fulham are after Anderson - I presume only one of us will get the defender we want. Either Fulham get Anderson or we get Guehi
We don't need a c Palace and Fulham are on similar levels. Regardless of what Palace fans think, newcastle is a step up for guehi. Fulham is a side step for Anderson.
Watching what has gone on so far, I think NUFC has lost its way some what (Temp I hope). I also think that those that think a top 6 is a shoe in are mistaken. It's going to be harder than ever as teams seem to have gone to another level with recruitment. If NUFC get off to a bad start, it could get ugly, real quick. Personally I still think Howe will be sacked this season. Just a feeling.
With a decent RW there isn't many, if any, better front 6, taking the midfield 3 and front 3 in the league. Throw in some pace in the back 2 with Kelly (CB not LB) and without the injuries and suspensions of last year then top 6 is an absolute ****ing shoe-in.
Yeah they changed the rules and started getting hardball the day Newcastle's takeover went through, but the fanbase seems to be incapable of acknowledging that. Newcastle's task is far more difficult than it was under the old rules and rules that were previously never properly imposed. It's going to take a decade and even then everything would have to be done correctly. Newcastle are no different to all the other pretenders and the big 6 are there to stay... until they join a super league anyway.
