You literally could say this about most teams in our league tho

Speakman had a poor summer window last yr (january is a hard month to sign quality but id still say signing Mundle 1 jan n Ekwah the other is decent business) but his other summer windows have been good

We def need to get the balance of the squad better, lets judge this window when it actually finishes

Mundle made a good case for himself, pretty horrible game having two experienced players on him at all times but did well. Made good use of the ball and showed some quality in attack.

i know what you mean but i was basing it on if any had to come into the starting 11 ... my first three pretty much showed they would be dependable, next three did nowt to make me feel they were worthy, the last four we have seen a few times starting games so we know what to expect, as for adil, i would like to see him either given more freedom or a partner on his wavelength but he really needs to start creating/scoring.

You can live with it for a game or two. Plus it’s worth beating in mind that Alese will be available to play there in a few weeks. O’Nien could do it if necessary. I’d disagree about Seelt too tbh. He’s mobile and good with the ball at his feet. He’d be fine - albeit that’s a way off. I wouldn’t be against us getting another fullback in. I’m just not particularly sure it’s a needle we can thread easily. Quality on a par with Hume, Cirkin and Huggins but willing to sit on the bench or in the stands. And then having to slot in seamlessly with the prospect of being straight out the team the next week. If they can achieve that all well and good. If not I’m okay for us to make do.

When he came in Hjelde looked decent for a couple of games. After that he looks calamitous. Hjelde isn't better than we saw tonight. He is not Championship standard from what we've seen. He's a very poor buy. Triantis has a bit more potential. Anderson needs to be shifted and never get anywhere near a first team match. Johnson was out of position but doesn't look particularly promising. We need signings at FB and CB as Pembele clearly isn't good enough.

With Ballard back soon isn't O'Nien a stand in in case we need a full back?

Andy’s Player Ratings: Preston 2-0 Sunderland - Disappointing Deepdale defeat for second string
    https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...sappointing-deepdale-defeat-for-second-string

    Simon Moore: 8/10

Was unlucky to concede the first after a deflection and could maybe have done better with the second that went in his near post but possibly slightly unsighted with the shot going through Hjelde’s legs. Made a number of good saves though and claimed the ball well when it came near him.

    Zak Johnson: 6/10
Defended OK from right back and made a couple of useful overlapping runs that resulted in a cross but that was a rare occurrence.

    Nectar Triantis: 6/10
A bit of a mix up for the second when he collided with a team-mate which left him out of position but looked assured for most of the game and used the ball better than the rest of the back four.

    Leo Hjelde (C): 5/10
Poor distribution and put us on the back foot straight from the second half kick off when he passed to a Preston player. Some good recoveries and blocks at the back but quite an erratic performance.

    Joe Anderson: 4/10
Like Hjelde he struggled with his passing but also regularly got caught out when pushing forward, either by timing his run badly or losing the ball in a bad position. Struggled getting back quickly enough too, looked very much like a centre half playing at left back.

    Pierre Ekwah: 6/10
Tidy in the middle of the pitch, spread the ball well and brought his team-mates into play. Don’t think he shielded the defence particularly well but was OK on his return from an injury that kept him out of the end of pre-season.

    Chris Rigg: 8/10
Really good performance playing just ahead of Ekwah, used his skill to get away from Preston players a number of times and once such instance set up a good chance for Aouchiche.

    Abdoullah Ba: 5/10
Had our best chance when he barely connected with a pinpoint cross from Aouchiche but struggled down the right hand side for most of the game. Looked a little better down the left when he could link up with Aouchiche but a disappointing game.

    Adil Aouchiche: 6/10
Should have had an assist with that cross to Ba and had a couple of dangerous shots himself, played OK but didn’t see enough of the ball high up the pitch.

    Romaine Mundle: 5/10
Some bright points but very little support from Anderson, leaving him to take on a couple of players at a time. Had one wild shot late on when some composure could have seen him trouble the goalkeeper.

    Nazariy Rusyn: 5/10
Worked tirelessly up top, closing down but not enough of a physical threat to worry the Preston centre halves. Had a half chance which he made himself after turning a defender and striking a shot from a tight angle but nowhere near enough of that.

    Substitutes
    Harrison Jones: 5/10

Got brushed off when he tried to challenge the Preston player in the lead up to the second goal but a deserved senior debut after some good performances for the under-21s.

    Jewison Bennette: 6/10
Dragged a shot wide in injury time.

    Luis Hemir: 6/10
Held the ball up and found Mundle for his chance, then headed over from a tight angle when he could have dropped it into the back post for someone to attack.

    Tommy Watson: 6/10
Quiet after coming on and going to the right wing rather than his usual left wing position.

Man of the Match: Simon Moore
Chris Rigg was excellent in the middle of the pitch but the score could have been a lot worse but for Moore, made a number of good saves and looked as assured as you would expect from such an experienced goalkeeper.

When you change the full team it rarely turns out well . That's what happens in these cup games . If that's a strong PNE team they looked weaker than Cardiff . Points for us then in the league.
Our starting eleven for now looks about right judging the performances tonight. Moore looks solid and confident . Triantis wasn't too bad and moves the ball well. Ekwah can do a job unless he's sold ? Mundle did ok. Rigg stood out but the midfield trio we had against Cardiff looks like the starting line up. Ba can do better so we'll see. RLB will stick to his winning team unless there's a magical signing in the next few days. Got to be positive.

Nah. Not for me. They need to be fullbacks and not centre backs. Need to be mobile and quick. That's how RLB has us set up. They are so high. Imagine Sellt tying to do that. The titanic turned quicker man.

The balance of the squad needs adjusting IMO. Especially to fit RLB style of play.

Totally agree. We saw on Saturday that FBs are key. I think Pembele has been a massive let down. When Ballard is back Alese gives us cover but we need some on the right.

In this system, Pembele should be the perfect full back. Fella moves like a 100m sprinter. Unfortunately it appears he plays like one too, who has never kicked a ball before.

Don't understand the Rusyn signing in hindsight. He can't play the role he was played in tonight. If he was signed as a backup winger, why not play him there tonight and stick hemir in the striker role.

Moore - Good game very impressed
    Anderson - miles off
Hjelde - very poor, looked quite panicked at times
Triantis - A bit clumsy but okish
Johnson - don't think he'll push for the 1st team here
Rigg - did Rigg things, class
Ekwah - did ok, not long back from injury
AA - created opportunities but a 6/10 at best
Ba - again back from injury but poor
Mundle - definitely something there a good impact player for now
Rusyn - I'd love the lad to start scoring but I can't see it

We talk about expenditure and investment but we have to question a 4m 4.5m outlay for Rusyn and Hjelde.

Mundle a 5? 2nd lowest rating and the same rating as Ba, Rusyn and Hjelde? Lower rating than AA? Are they taking the piss?

I did wonder that but RLB didn't bring him in and wants to know how he plays.

I've absolutely no idea if he's a striker or not tbh.
