NEWCASTLE United today revealed their tribute to Gary Speed for Saturday’s game against Chelsea.

Speed – who tragically took his life on Sunday – will be remembered before kick-off at St James’s Park.

A singer will lead the sell-out 52,000 crowd in a rendition of Welsh hymn Bread of Heaven.

And placards will be handed to those in the East Stand which will depict No11, Speed’s shirt number during his time at United.

All supporters will be handed hymn sheets before the game, which will also see a minute’s applause before kick-off.

Good to see this sort of thing, hoping it gets some television cover. Not to sound too cold, but there must be an element of releif for the board that such events have totally eclipsed the stadium renaming which may have had sections of fans protesting from the word go. Instead they'll have a stadium of people united in respect for Speed.

This^^^ The Stadium naming pales into insignificance at times like this though.

Should be wonderful, as long as the singer's mic isn't too loud because it would be nice for the crowd to be heard.

    From NUFC.com

The Premier League confirm that a minute's applause will be observed ahead of kickoff in all of this weekend's matches, in memory of the late Gary Speed.

In addition to that, NUFC confirm that a singer will lead the crowd in a rendition of the hymn, "Bread of Heaven", during which fans in the East Stand will be asked to hold up black and white cards depicting the number 11 - Gary's squad number while a Magpie. Hymn sheets are to be distributed at the turnstiles.

Meanwhile, we've been asked to publicise calls for fans to attend Saturday's game wearing toon scarves in a visible show of support - and we're happy to do so.

I'm predicting either 1-1 or we win 11-0 <whistle> Or Lovenkrands scores.

Gary Speed Accy for this weekend... Everton, Newcastle, Bolton, Leeds, Sheff Utd all to win... 120/1. :) Got a feeling Bolton would let me down though!

    Bolton's 6/1 so without the Bolton win it's only 16/1 instead of 120/1 <laugh>
